Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement - easy????
For a beetle IRS
I've read the bit on "Rob and Dave's" site and it seems pretty easy.
Are there any traps for young players, what sort of bearing kit should I get?

Hi
Price the bearings at a few places, they do vary between VW shops and bearing supply places. Get new seals as well and make sure you remember to
remove the big circlip 1st.

There is a big circlip that holds one of the bearings in - cant remember which one, but I do remember it was a bitch to get out because I had crappy
circlip pliers. Other than that you'll need a mallet and a drift to get the bearings out and your usual tools. Not too hard.

The big circlip holds the inner bearing in, and yeah it can be a bitch to get out. The first time I did it I was told to allow 2 hours per side. The
first side took me a hell of a lot longer than that and the other side took less than 2 hours. Nothing like a bit of practice eh.

The circlip is usually hidden with grease so clean all the old grease out of the housing first ... n tap gently with the FBH

Well, I did it :beer
About 4.5 - 5 hours
nothing broken or lost (never even lost my temper)
Got to the point where I had to start tapping the stub axle out and him no come out, mmmm
me then remembers what them Veedubbers said, BLOODY CIRCLIP.
Only other little hiccup was on the first one I did. When I was re-assembling I had 1 too many small spacers. WTFIGOH :cussing
Turns out it was the inner race of the outside bearing set.
