where does the thing go, is it obvious, and can it be taken out and put back with the box in the car or not?

Yes

It up near the nose cone of the box.toward the front of the car of the gear box.
It has wires attached to it.
It can also be taken out and replaced etc with out having to take out the box.
Easy job

i gotta figure out where the wires run 2 and from it 2, descriptions where they were supposed to go are greatly appreciated, cause the last owner or one b4 that cut the wires out and theres only afew sections not connected to anything left so i cant trace it anywhere:vader

they come off the coil as a powered wire - ie the +ve tab of the coil.

They then go to the switch on the box as described above.
They then comeback to the engine bay and go into one of those 1 to 2 connectors. This should be on the right hand side just in front of the shroud (front is front Mr Muir!)
From here it is one wire to each of the tail lights

make sure you put an inline fuse between the coil and switch ( the closer to the coil the better)
