My recommendation would be a Fuji s3500. They take an Awesome photo for a relatively cheap camera and have 6x Optical zoom to boot. they take AA
batteries which is great when travelling as AA's can be bought cheap and thrown out, no need to recharge etc. Although I have some AA rechargables
for use while near power.
They are $299 most places although JB Hi FI has them for sale for $269 at the moment.

Here are a couple of photos I took when I was in Tassie with this camera.
Be warned they are exactly as they came out of the camera so they are about 1mb each

I've got a Fuji S3500 I'm just about to sell. They do take a great pic, only reason we upgraded is it wasn't quite quick enough to capture the
kids at times. The wife saw her sisters camera and just had to have one...
U2U me for details if u r interested.

I agree, we have the earlier 3.2 mp model. They are a little bit slow sometimes. But really for a cheap camer they are awesome. They have a fully
adjustable mode too where if you wanted to fiddles with shutter speed and all that you could until your heart's content. we've had ours for about 18
months now and I only ever filled up the 512 memory card once. Can't rave enough about it. The only thing is, for non flash pics inside or at nite
you really need a solid surface, tripod or leg to hold it still and get the best out it.
