Help - Exhaust Question
After getting twin Kads ive been told that the stock exhaust is till holding it back a little.
With extractors is it possible to retain the stock looks ie twin tails
I love the stock look anyone know of any solutions?

1) http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewthread.php?tid=45688
This is the super dooper CSP answer
2) http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewthread.php?tid=45899
This is my car with the stock VW OEM header
3) Get a header and get some one to weld up a custom muffler

They are an option from VW Mexico / Brazil
They are as good as stock exhaust with flared pipes, but cheaper.
Nothing brilliant but OK

That Aircooled muffler would be the eaier alternative, but if you're gong extractors, you might as well get the better flow ALL the way through the
system ay? Where the headers merge into the muffler would create a lot of turbulance IMO. The CSP solution would be much better.. $$$ though... good
luck

I am running a 1916 with stock rejetted carb
It is a Peter Shelley motor.
50 ponies at the wheels.
bout the same as i would expect from a 1600 with twins
My 1776 with webers did 60 at the wheels
The exhaust have was/is a bit of an experiment.
No way am i spending $2k on an exhaust.
I agree - they look silly if you dont have pipes coming out the cutouts.
When i have reason to change mine i will rethink the answer.
What difference have you noticed with the Kads??
Any?? (hopefully yes)

You'll lose some ground clearence i think... anythings possible though, just be prepared to have lots of trial and error if you're doing it
yourself. I had a similar experience lately... very drawn out affair...worth it in the end though!

yes
you would cut it between the flange and the muffler
the muffler then sits sort of up under the guard (ish) and pipe welded between.
after the leaving side of the muffler it is extended back down and T'd to exit both the stock holes.
Someone handy with a welder would knock it up in a day - otherwise a days labour at Speedy Mufflers ...... $500??
I would put the header on first and see if there is a noticable enough power increase to warrant the stuffing round.
No point doing the $$$ and then finding out there was no noticeable power gain

i think thats hows Daves oval was done, using an old muffler to cut and weld into place to give the effect off the stock look with the pipe dumping out
beside it at the end
