type 4 uprite conversion
Hi there
just wondering has any one done the type 4 uprite conversion. which uses two lots of tin ware and cutting them up and welding together ?
I guess my real question is there any thing wrong with the conversion and pull the pin before i go any further ? |

ive done the conversion with the sharpbuilt kit here is the engine

its a 2L t4 thats being fitted to a sbug. its a good conversion. i get better fuel consumption with it than the 1600tp give us a yell if you have

the instructions could be better and he could sell everything in the kit like the different bearing for the fly wheel. this is a must in a bug cause
otherwise you will stuff the gearbox

Yeah I used the sharpbuilt kit but had to do a lot of fiddling to get it to fit right. Check out http://www.shoptalkforums.com in the type4rum as lots of people have used the method of modifying the type IV tin etc.

hi
thanks guys for the help. yeah i got to deside what to do im like half way through the conversion now and got qouted around the $5000 to get me engine
built and try'n to way up me options and maybe got a soobi motor instead. |

Put another 2 or 3 grand on top of the 5 and you could have a pretty good watercooled Suby setup. There are a number of people in the "non VW engine
conversions" forum that have heaps of info on what to do.
Even the info on putting the EJ22 into or bus has a fair slab of info that could help.

Barls...
Conversion looks good but you might want to
think about crankcase ventilation/breathing?
Type IVs generate a bit - you can see Dasdubber has
a breater running to the oil filler pipe on the alt stand..
I had to make a breather tank (on oil filler pipe) with
a road tube for mine and I will cut the road tube off and do
a proper breather box set up when this air starts to
get 'dirty' when a few more miles are on the engine..
