Why is this happening?
We have put the extractors and exhaust on my bug and took her for a spin around the block twice so far (it will be rego'd tomorrow). The first time
we got back we where having a look at the engine and accidentally bumped the back panel and it was red hot!
We made some adjustments so the extractors where no longer touching on the back panel inside and then we put heat wrap around the extractors and
surroundings. The metal on the back panel is still heating up pretty bad, not as much but still pretty bad.
How can we stop this? We are worried that if this keeps happening it will wreck the paint
Can anyone offer any suggestions, or has this happened to anyone else?
Thanx alot,
Jo

I reckon you are going to have to make some slightly more serious adjustments to the pipes to get a sifficient air gap to the back panel.

Is the motor tuned??
Timing set ??
What is the motor? 1600??
What are the extractors?? Thunderbirds??
Early rear plates are close and yes, can craze the paint, but only after a while.
Any chance of a pic??

The motor is a standard 1500sp, the timing has been done, and im not sure what the extractors are but thanx for your comments. We have taken a small
portion out of the extractors and moved them back far enough so there is enough clearance and it doesn't heat up anymore
Thanx tho!

Get some fibreglass exhaust wrap from your local exhaust or truck parts place.
Or make a heat sheild between the extractors and rear valance. (I did this with mine and fixed the problem).
