handbrake cables on 1975 kombi - how easy to change?

How easy is it for me to change the handbrake cables on a 1975 Kombi? One has seized. Where would it stick? I have limited tools but hope to be able to remove the back wheels and pull them out through that way some how. Do I need any special tools? Can I unstick the cables some how and reuse them?

Step by step would be nice.

Thanks for the help

Philip Muir

PS Very sad to see the t-boned Kombi in Cairns on Friday on the back of the transporter. And I hope the two Uk boys who had just bought their kombi and had it drop a cylinder on the get a good result.
