The TinkerBeetle

I think the time has come for her to have her own thread.
I bought her back in February and we haven't done much to her since, currently running a 914 with twin weber DCN's (overkill!!) but soon to drop a 1800 twin port into her.

This is the pic from the trading post, I saw it and begged Mr_hip to drive up to Cockatoo to see it with me.

You know I think she's awesome, but then again purple IS my favourite colour. ;)
If my PBB wasn't already a sweet paint job, I'd have a purple Bug for sure!

Nice to see some pics of her here!!

looks good chic but you do know you dont have to go back to the 1600 to have a heater and decent fuel economy. get a set of 2L heater boxes and a set of stock carbs on there and you will notice the difference. you may have to shorten the boxes by about 3 inches

Yeah, the dude I bought her off did a fair bit to it.

The motor will have to come out to have all the leaks seen to soon anyway, and the gearbox needs to be done, its way too grindy (previous owner gave it heaps :S) We have a donor motor and gearbox here now, sitting in another bug we picked up cheap. We're pulling the 1600 out of that soon and blinging it up. I have always wanted a Beetle with a Beetle motor anyway. :)
I want to get the other motor and gearbox out and ready to drop into her, so that I don't have to go for more than a day or two without her :)

It's different and it's yours. It is pretty cool to have an instantly identifiable VW. Probably a bit annoying if you buy it and then still have to do work on it, but in all honesty, welcome to owning a VW. That is part of bonding :)

The buying it and having to work on it bit didn't worry me too much, it's the first car I've bought in years that was rego'd and roadworthy the day I got it...LOL! and with Mr_hips mechanical knowledge its all good....even if he is usually a ford V8 man....he's starting to really get into this whole VW scene now :) Only took me 8 years to get my way...LOL!!

yeah it is a different looking one, Pete (helbus) did tell me what it was called on sunday, but I think I was having a blonde moment and can't remember it now :(
When the other motor goes in, I want the shroud powder coated purple :D

Yeah the shroud. Fibreglass upright kit on a type 4 motor. I was considering at one stage putting the old Helbus motor in the KOC Beetle this way, but thought it was dak dak-ing along ok with the 1300 so left it, now we dont have the beetle. :(

Powder coating the tinware and shroud and bits on the new 1600 will look really good. Go for it. Personally I like the look of an engine detailed in that way rather than 'plastic bling' put on it which is what I call the really cheap 'rust as soon as it leaves the packaging' dress up products.

Ur beetle is really cool. I always wanted to paint my 68 bug that color, but alas she went to heaven before I got the chance.

I tried to say hi at DOVW but never saw u near ur car. I was in the light blue new beetle cabrio which was parked up just a couple from you

no probs
i will say tho its a shitful colour to work with tho
my bug had a fairly major engine fire and ive repainted from the doors back
this was my first metallic paint job and ofcourse the fleck has ended up not matching real well so under some lights it looks like a different colour :cry

not happy jan

Painful!
