External Mirrors for beetle

I have a set of crappy mirrors bolted to the doors of a 67 beetle.. I thought I would go for the type that hang down off the gutter..but.. My question is.. And its a real dumb one.. What stops them from hitting the doors when you open them?.

yeah saw a set like those you have and they are sturdy enough.

i thought the ones with the 4 inch mirror, were too large for a beetle and opted for the 3 inch.

i ended up going with a slightly different set too the ones you're looking at...instead of the screw holding the mirror to the arm, these have a acorn/bullet style nut....a bit more period.

either way the clamp style of the mounting, neccesitates cutting the channel on your door! the clamp is more or less designed to mount to a flat, not the 15mm wide top of a beetle door

any ways, they do go on and look cool, although i can't see shit behind me with em:P

actually, now i'm looking at the pics i took for ya, they suck:blush

the top of the door distorted because i had too screw em up so tight as the angles between the outer panel and lip where you mount em don't really work with the clamping style......

...couldn't get em low enough to clear the gutter rail, hence the rust stains- living 300m from the ocean don't help!.......

... i can't see as much as with the standard mirrors even though i thought i got the relationship of 1/4 window operation, ease of glancing and rear view as good as possible.....

... if you can, use the bolt in style, hineysight tells me its a better option...or i can sell you mine:P.....i have the number for the hot rod shop i got mine from, they probably do both mounting styles $45 each

fords are kind of a different shape to beetles:kiss

...go with the peep mirrors, just use the version that bolts into the body, not clamp styles.
