external oil cooler on baja problem

Putting a rotary in a baja and need to mount the oil cooler in a safe loacation where it wont get caked with mud ie above engine at least.
Problem is oil pressure as i think that a rotary has no valve mechanism to stop the oil cooler from draining meaning a severe lack of oil on start up. Has any one come across this problem b4 on subi conversions and if so whats a viable solution?

Just put a one way valve inline to the oil cooler
