Can anyone tell what this gearbox is?

Hey all,

I have the numbers from the side of the box here:

113 301 103 - I presume this is the VW part number?

D C087 0005

If anyone can help my identify this box that would be great!

Cheers!

Thats the number of the actual gearbox alloy housing and means nothing.

Does it have IRS or swing axles.

Looks like a dual side plate box

does the plate where the drive flanges are bolt on both sides??

If so it is an earleir 1972ish IRS box
Has 4.38 ratio rather than the 3.88 L bug box

Hi

If it has a reverse light switch its from a 72, if no switch its from a 71. If it dosent have the littel holes for the banana mounts., its from a type 3, they have removable alloy slugs filling the holes.
