bay kombi factory aircond

hi all
i have for sale a rare factory air cond set up for a bay window kombi
i think it is mostly complete - the compressor but you are far better off retro fitting a compressor off a late model car anyway as they are more efficient.
i was going to use this in my subi bus but have decided to try and fit a toyota a/c i got from work.
so its up for sale:thumb

I dont know what its worth either but I'd like to buy it. It was 41deg here in Townsville on Sunday and the humidity makes it even more unbearable. I say that I would need it more that most and my wife would agree - I sold our aircond japper to buy a kombi!
I guess you know what it owes you and therefore would have an idea of what would be reasonably fair.
I'm in for a fair price. Your call.

hey peoples
these arnt hard to fit but like bob has said it is necessary to get a new compressor which costs around $700 the VW mechanic has done a few of these into bus's and if u supply the air con unit he said its around $2200 the fit (including new compressor, condensors, fans etc) the biggest problem with fitting these is finding the pulley that goes behind the fan on type 4 motors most people wouldnt even know these existed and thats the problem!! if anyone is really keen on getting it done U2U me for the number of the VW guy that does these!
but considering the rarity of these units i would expect this one to go for around $750 or so!!
cheers

a compressor is only around the $250 mark. The units arn't that hard to instal, the biggest drama being (IMHO) the fitting of the compressor/drive.I made a drive for mine from the front of the fan as the rear pulley belts on the "factory" ones are too thin and break regularly, and are a pig to change.Having a Subaru motor instead now sloved that problem:bounce I'll hunt some pictures down and post them of my 2.3 type four with the aicon. compressor.

Best of luck and I hope that you get what you want for it.

I've recently bought two bay unit airconditioners, as seen in the picture at the top of the post. I paid considerably less for both than what is being suggested in this post, for the main reason that there is still a lot of work to do to install these units, have them working properly and arrange the plumbing and wiring in such a way so as to not detract from the originality of your bus.

I expect to pay the same again just to have the units checked and working correctly (sparky, aircon specialist, motor trimmer), and then some hours measuring and fitting. Then there is the compressor and I'll revise the under tray cooling tinware for better fit and practicality.

Also, it is advisable for tropic dwellers to fit an external oil cooler if you haven't already got one. Aircon saps a little power from even the best tuned Kombi motor, and will therefore effect performance and cooling.

Although these units are rare, mind your initial purchase price so that you don't over capitilise on something you might not be able to use.

I did put a bid on these units because I still believe that they fit the best for the Kombis (air cooled) and I have another Bay to fit-out, so best of luck to the eventual buyer.

when i next get a T2, it would have to have a cold wind machine fitted or included in a box
and i'd expect to pay for that overall
as all the factory accessories and hard to find bits would make it obviously more valuable and individual..
hard to find bits that are from the factory that are not made anymore = what someone is willing to pay for em..
so considering how hot it has been lately and forecasted that figure seems to be fair to me without a problem..
if there were an abundance of these units lying around the price would reflect their worth..
gotta love the free market..
go for it bob..

Sorry, meant the actually roof unit that the post is about... they're rare and desireable but I had one and they look tacky and they hang about 6 inches off the roof so you have to duck under it when you walk through. I suppose it would be ok for round town but it's annoying for camping.

I just recently purcased one of these units, and am about to fit. I have a relative who has a '78 micrbus which already has it installed. I am about to take some pics in the next few weeks of the way in which the hardware is mounted and will be able to post if wanted.
