 rear bags

the set up you see is similar to the air kewld one in the states with an arm that links to the floor pan then to the lower shock mount on the swing
arm, if you look closely you can see iv'e notched the rear swing arm (not really recomened) but if you want to go low its the only way. |

Good stuff - how does the rear torsion bars come into play? Are they mounted in the centre but allowed to turn effectively making them purely a pivot
point rather than an active component of the suspension? (sorry if the question is worded strangely).

Also for the front? Will all the weight be loaded onto the shock towers - you mention they will be modded, is this for reinforcing to deal with the
forces involved?

Sorry for all the the questions, I'm really interested though! Great work, certainly has come a long way since the original photo!

1, Yes, The rear torsion bars are just loaction bars once the air bags are installed, a made pivot bar is installed to allow easy rolling once the air
bags are set up. This also applies to the front torsion bars as well.

2, The shock is modded to allow the fittment of a bigger diameter air shock, not only do you have to create a wider shock tower raidus, but it also
need extending by 2" at most to allow the car to go lower once deflaited.

All the recutting & installing should be reinforced as movement will put added pressure's onto those parts.

It also helps if you run a norrowed front beam for the wheels to go up into the higher point of the guard.

This is my brothers car, so this is why I can answer these questions, and I also am baggin my rat bug, and I have an air bagged toyota hilux.

Hope this helps you out mate.

You too huh? I have the gauges sitting in my drawer ready to go, but thats it.. Twin needles, two gauges, independant bag readings.. yay.

This is my goal too, so many will be watching this mate, and cheering as you go. Nectar was doing his Beetle in Vic, but I dunno if that is still
going ahead or not.

Which state are you in? I'd like to know the legalities of it all too Alan..

Laws in NSW and across the country are going through a change. It is best to talk to your engineer off the state's RTA site from which your in.
Rumor has it that there will be a level set of guide lines for modifiing cars & light commercials.

NSW rta has a list of Engineering Signatories that can be downloaded as a PDF file here....... http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi15.pdf

VICRoads PDF file http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf/rdsafe/VSI%208.pdf

Qld Transport PDF file http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/LTASinfo.nsf/ReferenceLookup/Modification_...

WA PDF File http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/lic_modform_prodveh.pdf

SA PDF file http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/pdfs/personal_transport/light_vehicles_pdfs/In...

These file should help those with questions on whats legal and whats not as this time.
