Electric Conversions anyone?

Has anyone done or know of someone who has done an electric conversion on their VW. This place in the US sells kits to do it...

but I'm wondering if there's someone in Oz that specializes in it.

I has a very preliminary look at converting a car a while ago. The cost of conversion is relatively high (~$5000+) and the running cost when you consider cost of replacing batteries etc means that the running cost is about half that of a petrol engined car. Combined with the short range, the payback period compared to the petrol running cost is what put me off. Still... it would be an interesting project. From memory, all of the info I found was on USA sites.

OK, thanks. That figure seem a bit high. Did you come across the guys who make kits that I included in my initial post? I'd think that would bring the cost down significantly... or did you already take that into account?
