Eastern Creek Track Days
I'm a newbie at this and keen to try out my recent beetle purchase on a track.
Open Track days at Eastern Creek are $250. Anyone been to one of these?
It seems cheaper to join the ARDC and go to Private Practise days for $80. Anyone on here doing these?
Any other suggestions?
I've been searching the CAMS website without success to try and work out what kind of helmet I need.
What else do I need?
thanks
David

Your right, just turn up at the ARDC days as you don't need to be a member to run. Just costs you an extra $20 I think not being with the ARDC, so
it's a much better option. But you must have a CAMS L2S licence.
Helmet, long sleeved shirt, long pants (cotton or similar)and non synthetic shoes. Check out http://www.wakefieldpark.com.au they have a lot of "off street speed days" $40 for a licence that lasts a year and $80 a day
for the car. We're heading there next Monday.

A couple of guys from work are members of the ARDC and they go to the private practice days. They are usually run during the week. They recently had
one last friday....their good fun and great for a practice day to play with your race car set etc.

It suits the car really well! I think i've seen it at a Wakefield track day? That's a fairly hefty waiting time!!

I dont think they time just normal track days, the do for practice days before events though. If you're just after an idea of what cars run around
certain tracks you can have a look at http://www.racetime.com.au

Thanks for that- Many forums talk about track days and times and when I ask for comparisions there is no reply.
You get to know what a Vee does or a 2 litre Escort , HQ etc and when people say they are very quick and could beat race cars you often wonder.
Most people don't understand that a proper race car of nearly any catergory will blow most road cars to the weeds.

Yeah, all the "fully sik" street racers out there, most of them would get carved up on the track! (that's the only place you should be doing it
anyway)

Hehehe yer youve only got to check out the stories on "Today-Tonight" and soforth that get trotted out every couple of months where they get these
ricers and traffic light heroes to rate their own performances as drivers before testing them on a closed track and blah.
Usually highly amusing to see these bozos getting themselves crossed up and arse about face when asked to actually control a car as opposed to just
planting the right foot and holding on.
I often have fun with this kind during performance driver training days by timing their laps with little or no instruction and then after with some
instruction.
It is not uncommon to see improvements of 15 seconds and more around a difficult 2klm track like Baskerville!
Legends in their own lunchtime LMAO

Well I had a great day at Eastern Creek today. Everything came home in one piece. Hooray!
The Evo5s and WRXs that were there dont need to worry about my pace just yet.
There was a very nice Audi TT there with what appeared to be several performance mods doing very nicely. And the mid 90s Audi quattro there was
humming along pretty well too.

Good to see David. How's the car on the track? I'm glad it's being used for its intended purpose.

Hi Bill,
The car went well for our first outing to the track. I had fitted a 4 pt racing harness which was great.
Some visits to Mike at CBB has also helped the 1916 run a bit better.
The brakes held up well all day (as they should, for large front and rear cross ventilated disks on a light car!)
The gearing probably isnt ideal for a few of those corners at Eastern Creek, and a few more HP would be helpful
when you are driving with EVOs and WRXs. Maybe I just need a bigger rear vision mirror...LOL
Probably most of all the driver needs more time behind the wheel ;-)
For next time, I may try fitting the rear sway bar back on and buying or borrowing some slicks.
And I'll make sure I never back off in the middle of turn one when its starting to rain......

Did one today!
I took the beetle out to a private practice today and it was fantastic.
I did so many laps I ran out of tape on the video camera (1 hr) and fuel (A full tank). There's no better way to contribute to global warming I
say.
I can finally say my oval, on it's 50th birthday, is finally exactly as I want it. Everything works brilliantly. It handles well, stops well, goes
hard and stays cool. I love it!
