Save South Stradbroke Island rally this Sunday Feb 5
If anyone's is interested in organising a cruise or just looking for something to do on Sunday, there will be a rally at The Gold Coast Seaway (just
north of Sea World on the Southport Spit) to protest against a QLD govt proposal to build a huge and unnecessary cruise ship terminal in the
seaway.
To accomodate the terminal there will need to be massive amounts of dredging in the seaway which will kill fish (a seahorse colony was recently
discovered in there, not to mention the fact it's an unreal fishing spot), pollute the waterways and ocean, and ruin one of the Coast's best and
most consistent surf spots on the southern tip of South Stradbroke Island.
Maritime and customs regulations will mean there will also be restrictions on seaway access and on land which is currently public space.
Please come along and show your support. If you surf or want to take part, a few hundred surfers will be paddling out to symbolically blockade the
seaway.

It's on at midday on Sunday, please if you're within an hour or two's drive come along.
If you know a surfer in southeast QLD or northern NSW please let them know. IF you have surfed south straddie you'll know how bloody good it is, if
you haven't you would want to if you knew how good it was!
This is going to be a big rally. The Save Our Spit Alliance (not all surfers, mainly just rightly concerned local citizens) estimate there will be
between 2000 and 5000 people.
IF you've got nothing on and want to fire up the VW, be it bus, type 3, bug, trike, thing, karmann ghia, porsche etc etc and enjoy a beautiful day in
the sunshine while helping to preserve our beautiful coastline, please cruise up to the (still) beautiful northern Gold Coast.
