For Sale: 11 Window '67
Well, due to a recent addition to the family I have to regretfully part with this project bus.
First of all so I don't forget:
Seller: Aurel, skabus at gmail.com
Suburb: Murrumbeena, 3166, Victoria
Item Description: VW '67 11 window splitty
Item Cost: $1000 neg.
Chassis no.: 237-something (sorry I forgot, will get later if anyone cares)
Condition Description: Poor (according to the official list)
Right, what is it? It's a '67 splitty, last rego'd about 10 years ago, seems to have been someone's parts bus, has usual rust spots, but is
generally fairly sound actually rust-wise (for an unrestored splitty). It does have some oddities.
First, and perhaps this is kinda cool (hehe, purists bite me!), there's a sunroof been hacked into the roof. It wasn't done too badly really, and
would be so much fun to drive around on a warm summers day. Needs new covering, the existing stud things that hold the material on are still in place
and many of them function. May once have been a pop-top or something. Anyway, if you want a sunroof bus but don't have the heart to hack up a good
one, here's one already done for you! No regrets about customising this baby (and it's only a '67! Hehe, nah, just kidding).
Then there are the patched panels. At some time three holes were cut into the panels, square holes and a round one, maybe one was a gas bottle holder
or something... They were patched up using bog, plastic sheets, tin sheets, rivets, I don't know, it's just weird. They're not in annoying spots
to get to though.
A (hopefully minor) problem may be the rear bumper bracket. From behind the gearbox carrier horn member thing the rail that goes rearwards to the
bumber has a bend in it. That'd need straightening up if you wanted to put in say an engine. Shouldn't be too hard but that's all a question of
what you're into. Anyway, minor compared to some stuff you see.
The rear of the bus has had late Bay lights put on at some point. You really have to wonder sometimes don't you?
Thirdly, there are few mechanical bits left. No lights, no steering column (surprise!), no motor, does have gearbox and unmolested splitty front beam
(and I think the brakes in the front are still intact - the rear ones are missing shoes, at least on one side). Fuel tank is included, along with a
beaten up rear valence section, a jack, and some sort of axle (you'll see in the pics).
She was also made into a homejob walkthrough: a replacement panel is included though. The drivers floor section, while no longer actually rusty, was
repaired (with rivets and sheet metal, surprise!) sometime, and has since been cut up. Yeah weird hey but I think someone was pillaging parts with no
regard for what they didn't want.
Been forked sometime, the heater channel's squished.
Rust-wise:
* doors: pretty good, I reckon. All included.
* cargo floor: can't stick a screwdriver through anywhere. Really. It looks terrible though. I think all the paint that was spilled in there at
some stage may have helped. Must've been litres of the stuff.
* underneath: I've used several jack points, so that's pretty good right? The drivers side front one I think it cactus. All beams, rails and so
forth are solid, but everything's orange of course. And remember the drivers side rear bumber bracket is kinda bent at the back, past the earbox
mount. Pretty good though for an otherwise odd vehicle.
* windows: window sills are solid, window frames are cactus (the pop-outs that is). Windscreen seals look really good, but one corner of one
windscreen has a bit of a rust-bubble coming through.
* roof and gutters: fine. Minor surface oxidation is about all.
* sills: as usual, rusted through the outside. But, the insides are solid, I don't know why. Feel all along, there's no holes. I've seen much
worse.
* nose: has rust holes along the bottom, as usual.
(I'm starting to wonder how long a post can get...)
Time for some photos I reckon! High res versions available.
Cheers, Aurel.

Someone cut a dash padding strip thing from a Bay and fit it into the splitty. It's not quite my kind of thing, but if you like it...

Right I just can't end it on that. Here's one I like a lot better. :P
Nice door hey! See the quality patch-job in the bottom section! The _chrome_ inner handle is actually included, it's just fallen off because it's
not screwed on.

Oh man, that picture wasn't rotated properly. Screwed on!
Anyway, I reckon this bus would be a good restoration project, but she does need more time than I have available. On the other hand, there are some
nice bits there if you want to cut her up (but for the love of god don't tell me that's what you have in mind)!
By the way, I'm selling her for less than I paid, decide for yourselves if I'm a fool. :P
Cheers dudes,
Aurel.

This is a good bus for the price. The rust is alot less severe than most and would only be a solid weekends work once you had the repair panels, and
is too good to cut up for spares.
I had to sell my splitty too mate, due to finances, but if I was looking for another it would be in my garage as we speak!
All the best with the sale.
Cheers,
Steve

Hey, thanks steve! Yeah I'm only selling 'cause I can't get her to storage in Adelaide at my dad's farm. And I can't have three busses here in
Suburbia. I'll have to pop around in the new blue doubledoor, she's freakin' awesome!
Cheers, Aurel.

Hehe, nah, eh, maybe. I sold this ages ago, but I think the new owner recently advertised it again...
Might have to contact him. I think contact details were available on DSK.
Good luck, a.
