bay disc on split?
hi, would a bay king and link splindle with disc bolt straight onto a split beam? cheers, dave.

it would need to be a 68 beam(they have ball joints,not king pins)

there are kits available in the UK to bolt a bay disc straight ion to a split as these disc set ups are off the Brazilzin bays.
Check out Volksworld.
The only way a bay disc set up will fit is you have to have the shoulders on the arms turned down to fit into the splitty beam.
The easiest way is to get a 68 or early 69 ONLY ball joint beam from a bay and fit that, you will have to fit adjusters as the bay beam sits about 1
and a half inches higher.
You then can fit the disc set up from any latwr bay beam straight on.

The reason you need a '68 or '69 bay beam is because the bolt pattern changed after that, but these early ones bolt straight in. In case anyone
didn't know... These beams have drum brakes by default.
Then if you fit the late bay discs you'll have flat hubcaps up front on 112pcd (?) bolt pattern rims, but round caps at the rear on stock splitty
rims. Need to carry two spare wheels for flat tyres. In case anyone was wondering.
Edit: oh then you IRS the rear end with an Indian kit or something and get bay wheels all round.

hi, ive alllready got 5x112 fitted so thats no probs. only thing ive heard against the bay beam is that the ball joints run out of angle if you go low
with the suspension! where as king and link dont suffer the same problem? any one had this problem? cheers.

I'm fairly sure the bay disc hub would go
onto the 'later' (64-67) split spindles reasonably
easily....might have to twiddle with bearings and seals
but I think it would be quite straightforward.
make a set of caliper mounting brackets and off you
go...
I haven't done this but I've measured and am confident
it would be reasonably easy - I just haven't had to do it
for myself at this point so I've just got it sitting in the
'something else to look at when I have time' pile.
I have put bay discs onto early (55-63) splitbus spindles
and this was quite an involved job - had to make/machine
hubs to suit.

You can machine the trailing arms from a bay from 50mm to 48 mm and then they will bolt straight in.
Thats in the later(after 59 I think split beams, the ones with bearings), not the earlier ones.

I dont think so, the only problem is finding a lathe big enough so that the trailing arms can spin around.
It wont wotk on early splits as they have the bakerlite type bush but will work on the later ones.
