Splitty Rear Wheel Bearings

It appears that the rear wheel bearing on the splitty ('67) is leaking oil. The oil is getting onto the inside of the backing plate. I have disassembled the brakes. How do you get the backing plate and bearing cover off? Haven't got a manual yet, so I cann't look it up.

Done that, but it doesn't want to come off. Do I need a puller, or should it come off more easily.

Unusual. Try some heat to expand the cover- even if it's a hair drier or hot air gun. I think the bearings sit a little proud in the housing & it may be stuck in the cover. If u use a screwdriver to lever it off be careful not to scratch the faces.

Don't forget the bolt that holds the wheel cylinder, it also holds the backing plate, then the dowels down the bottom.

Thanks guys. Got if off. Heated it up, then wiggled with two screw drivers until it popped off the bearing. All painted up, just need a new seal kit to put it all back together.

make sure the O rings are seated properly when fitting n use the paper gaskets as well otehr wise you get an Oil dripper

Did you drain the reduction boxes while you have it apart and gear box oil as well.

I couldn' avoid draining the reduction hubs. As soon as I loosened the bearing cover, oil started pouring out. I have some 90w Hypoid gear oil in the garage. Is this the right grade to refill the hubs?
