just want to know how much does it take to convert my kombi to a subaru turbo engine and what is need to make it happen please help...

If you have the bus and you know exactly which motor you are fitting, then you have made it part way there.
Next decision is the way you are going to tackle the operation.
Are you going to buy the s/h motor?
Are you going to fit it?
are you going to fit the intercooler?
Are you going to fit the radiator?
Are you doing the wiring loom?
Are you rebuilding the gearbox?
Do you have a 2 litre gearbox?
Think about some answers to those questions and then I really recommend giving Custom Off Road a call. They have a lot of conversion components that
you do not have to re-invent. The ultimate question is whether you would prefer a drive in drive out deal? I think the current pricing for this type
of conversion with a Subaru 2.2 EJ22 engine supplied and fitted is around $8800.
If I was to put a price on what I did, using all COR conversion components and doing all of the labour myself, I came up with about $6300 That was me
buying all of my other components including the engine at trade price as I work in the motor industry. Put the 50-60 hours labour I put in on top of
that and it is easy to see that the COR price is very fair.

thanks hellbus but custom off road have EJ22 only ...cause i found a subaru liberty engine which is turbo...so i kind of lost at the moment..anyway
does it make a difference..please advise

I am doing a conversion as we speak with an ej20t for about the same as Custom Off Road. Thats drive away, he is supplying nothing but the car.

In my opinion based on personal experience of fitting the EJ22?
They fit well, go well and the actual motor is not very expensive. I got a 127,000km Australian delivery second hand EJ22, loom, exhaust, computer for
$1000. They can be found for as little as $700, although mine came with a 6 month warranty. The fitting cost is not a great deal different.
The EJ22 is a fairly torquey engine with a longer stroke than an EJ20. It is very sooth and does not need to be revved excessivley to produce
accelleration. It is for this reason it suits a heavy bus compared to a lighter Beetle or Type 3. Torque is a good smooth way to get a heavier object
from standstill to moving.
The EJ22 is pretty rock solid and has proven itself in Australian conditions quite well. They consistently produce high klm engines of over 300,000km.
This is not to say the EJ20T is not a good motor, however the EJ22 seems to be a very suitable motor for a bus.
There are weak points in the Suby motor that I have heard of, however they don't seem to be too severe. I have been warned that changing oil
regularly is very important to prevent lifters collapsing. It is also good insurance to replace the cambelt every 100,000km as insurance.
Overall the EJ22 seems very simple as the fitting guide I have written in my thread shows. I am certainly no expert in wiring, mechanical or fuel
injection. I am however pretty handy with a spanner and very fussy in what I do. I pulled it off, so it indicated to me that it was a relativley
simple setup that will hopefully give very good service life.
I believe that the money spent on the conversion will eventually come back to me in the fact that for the next 100,000km I should only have 10 oil
changes and no other engine maitenance or tuning whatsover. I fitted new cambelt, waterpump, platinum sparkplugs and fuel pump when I did the
conversion. The motor should give easily another 200,000km. Worst case scenario in 10-15 or 20 years I put another second hand motor in. Should be
very easy to get and probably cheaper then.

Hi Matt,
I was wanting to get an ej20t conversion done to my 74 beetle. Would love to do it myself, but don't really have the know how, and definately
don't have the time. I was looking to get someone to do a drive in and drive out deal. I heard of COR, but i'm in Wollongong/Sydney and was wanting
a bit closer to home so it would make things easier. You say your doing one now, would you be interested in doing one for me?
