Forum vote.. important.. VOTE NOW!!

Replies or no replies in the Buying Selling section?

Let me explain it.
If we have replies: we can have bitching and bagging, and a high percentage of reproted posts come from that section when it is allowed. However, questions are posted in public, both positive and negative ones,(if thats possible) and answers, depending on times and wording of, can influence the sale directly.

If we don't have replies: It is more like eBay or the Samba.com, where the item is for sale, and if you have any questions, you can email each other for the answers and discussion, and if a valid point, the author could edit the post to include the information discussed in emails. No bitching, but no questions.

One way or the other. Whats it to be?

I agree....One negative comment can make the difference between a sale or not.

I say let us have the comments, but lets go further:

Let people bag the price if they want but also let there be some kind of feedback or rating system like some forums have. Not sure if that is possible here but it doesnt rate the product only the seller anyway.

If I advertise something for sale and Im asking stupid money than let it be said.
Nobody has to buy it nor do they have to take note of negative comments from the peanut gallery.

I have seen a beetle for sale here that looked great in the pics and had various people claiming it was great but when I saw the same beetle (by coincidence) the next day in town the reality was somewhat different. Very distinctive car this was but it looked a bit cheap in the flesh so I said so. And I'd sign my full name to those comments if asked.

1 vote FOR replies.
Because I like reading the ad threads,
the extra information from posted q's is informative.
Haven't seen all that many neg posts..but I've only been reading ads for a few months.
It's also nice when somebody chips in with a part/cars' history.

But, a vote for 'no replies' if that makes buying and selling fairer and eases the workload of the fine moderators and site managers at aussieveedubbers, who have made the aquisition of parts for my beloved vw much easier.

Comments can be helpful if your'e selling something that you don't know the going price for, I would appreciate being told I've asked too much and also the very rare occassions (yes, there are kind, honest dubbers out there) I haven't asked enough for something.

It is for these reasons that I have not bought or sold anything on this forum yet, I am still trying to get a good idea of, "what the going rate is" for various items. Auction site rates are not neccessarily a good indication of prices on Aussieveedubers as you are supposed to be dealing with peers who are "friends" due to a common interest.

I see the main probem being Bitching, although, quite often it is probably unintended. You have to be very careful how you express yourself with the written word. Something that looks harmless to you could come accross as offensive to many others because they don't have the advantages of hearing your tone of voice or reading your body language, like we all do in face to face conversation.

So, it all comes down to etiquette, read what you have written (several times, or ask some one else to read it). Try to put yourself in the place of the recipient and imagine how it would come accross to them. It doesn't hurt to say "look, I'm not havin a go but those items usually go for xx Dollars, is there a good reason why yours is worth more?" Naturally, very thin skinned people should probably avoid selling in this way if they couldn't take a query as tame as that one.

Matt.

PS. The edit button is also very useful!

what if the sellers themselves get to view any comments (not the rest of the forum), and they can then amend there selling details etc to reflect answers to questions etc.

or a simple form could be made that would let people send a question via u2u, and if necessary, a response posted in the selling thread.

Could make things complicated... I run a couple of forums, and I think it could be fiddly and cause problems.... dunno how ubb works, but i assume it would be just as complicated as phpbb or ipb.

I'm with the "continue status quo and ignore the asshats" crowd all the way. :tu:

Come on, if we have some asshat blatantly shitstirring in the classifieds.. or anywhere forum-wide for that matter, and one feels that they just HAVE to be the bloody big man and do something about it, how hard is it to just ignore there hatted ass and calmly click that there handy-dandy "REPORT" button in the corner of their post, then resume posting our meaningful and constructive replies without even beginning some bloody childish idiotic flamewar???:jesus

There is no need to take away the replies altogether...there will always be dicks on ANY forum... not just AVD... and it's the admins and mod's responsibility to just weed them out and not to sherk this responsibility by stopping everyone posting incertain areas, hence the name "MODERATER"...

And as for all us regular schmos? well... we should just sit down, shut up and ignore these idiots who decide they want to throw shit at the fan and leavethem to be dealt with by the appropriate authorities, ie the moderater team, instead of mounting our soapboxes and doing the big gung-ho loudmouth yank act for the express purpose purpose of boosting ones own bloody cyber-ego!:vader

And no... this post was not intended to belittle the admins/ mods, or any other party in any way, except for the asshat factions among us...

To be fair some of the replies to the ads on here aren't to do with the sale of the car/parts and are pretty good fun to read!! It ends up being a bit of a chat which is always good [especially reading it at work as a bored programmer :D]

I say leave replies on, if someone doesn't want replies, they can always turn it off, and if they're selling a glazed turd, well they'll get torched somewhere else on the forum for sure!

as has been said, the whiners are usually one or three usual suspects anyways, usual statement about the minority stuffing up the majority.

closed posts will (I thunk) create more issues as those less scrupulous cannot be challenged

a particular 'rust free'split nosed dual cab bay is a case in point :crazy:

pls keep replies...it has helped me in the past. a seller advert. a van as being a great buy (not someone who usually stopped buy)

got sax to check it out and I am so grateful I did, saved myself some big bucks not only in purchase price, btu repairs that woudl have bin needed to bring it up to scratch.

it is an experience I will remember tio this day.

The newbies need as much help and advice as they can get. Last thing we want is for a newbie to buy unaware of the problems a car has. it would leave a bad taste in their mouth and a bad rep for avd as a whole to overcome.

Also, it helps if a person can ask the others here in avd to look at that particular car in that same thread...otherwise the thread count would increase quite considerably...

example...u lock the sellers thread...so anyone who is interstate needing someone to check the car out would either need to use u2u or start a new thread....and most likely if their new, haven't meet anyone, they'd start a new thread...

i think is it is at all possible, if the seller themselves can decide to lock the thread, its probably the best option. Leave it to each individual who is selling.

cheers

Get rid of replys!!!
Why??...

i get sick of people bagging out others for selling something. if the price is too high, don't buy it. if the condition is less than ideal, don't buy it. if you want to know the true condition of a car or part, go and look at it or ask for detailed pics. this is what we all did before the internet. so you may miss a bargain every now and then, deal with it. if you buy anything sight unseen then you are tasking a big risk. if you are prepared to take that risk, good for you, expect to get burnt occasionally.

i have read the trading post and numerous other classifieds on many occasions, and i don't recall ever ringing up to place an ad that the price of this car is too high, or that car has rust in it that the owner hasn't described in detail. you want to know what rust is in it? go look at it. if it has too much rust.... DON'T BUY IT. it's that easy. if other people don't want to do this, it is them who will get burnt.

if you want to know if something is priced well, do some research. look at similar items for sale elsewhere. i know what is a good price for a car because i keep up to date on what is selling and for how much. i don't just waltz into an internet forum and buy the first split screen bus i see for sale because some monkey at a keyboard says it's a good price. same goes for the old "how much is this worth" posts. if you want to know, look around.

if we all use a little common sense when buying there will not be the chance for someone to rip us off.

the other thing is people who have no intention of buying something telling us that the price is either good or bad. "wow, nice kombi, wish i had the money. should sell quickly at that price." if you don't have the money then why are you commenting? these peoiple are driving up the prices of cars that they complain they can't afford. where is the sense in that??

I think replies are useful... I've learned heaps from reading other people's buy/sell ads.

And since some of my threads have been locked in the sections in question, I can't even edit them to say I've found what I'm looking for, etc.... so if there's a way to have no replies but the person who's thread it is can DEFINITELY edit their own post, I guess I'd vote for no replies...
... but for now I think replies are good. I just ignore the idiots, though sometimes they're good for a giggle...

if a seller is completely honest with what he is selling then theres nothing to fear and if you dont agree with a coment you can reply as long as all parties stay cool i dont see a problem.
