Geelong rd speed cameras revisited
Well, much to my personal suprise they're NOT point-to-point.....
I spoke to the Department of Justice ('cos Vic Roads doesn't oversee the speed cameras any more) and the story is…
The cameras are not distance over time (i.e. they are not linked in any way to produce an average time). Each camera acts independently of each other
(so in effect you can loose your licence in one trip if you pass several of the cameras speeding by 10km and over). Because the cameras are not linked
that you could slow down for the cameras and then speed up between them, if you were so inclined….(which I am not )
The cameras have a secondary speed checking device (built into the roads) so that if you have been caught speeding - you have been speeding.
The speed advisory displays leaving geelong are not accurate. The Police have informed the Dept. of Justice that the reading you get off the advisory
display is not at the same level of accuracy as the cameras and so there is no defence in saying that you "calibrated" your speedo from the
displays. Incidentally the advisory display is overseen by Vic Roads, not the Dept. of Justice (just to make things more confusing).
