It seems to be anybody over the age of 40 has owned a vw of some type or another. And they always have a story to go along with it. it must have been awesome back in the 60/70's when there were 1000's of them!!

in about 98 i asked my uncle (who lives in rural tasmania) to tell me if he ever comes across any beetles with a bar down the centre of the back window. he replied, i know where there is one of them, i took it to the tip for a friend a couple of years ago... of course by the time he told me it had been crushed/buried.
my dad has told me stories about traveling to the snow in a split window beetle, a friend told me her grandfather had the first beetle in canberra (another split). what happened to all of these cars?
i have also talked to a guy with vw stuff who in reply to my Q about period tuning parts replied i used to have an oval with an okrasa motor, i shouldn't have sold that.
the most frustrating thing i have heard lately was from my father who ran into a guy in a modelshop about a month ago. somehow they got talking about cars and mentioned the i was into vw's. to this the guy replied that he used to work at a vw dealership as a mechenic and still had a pile of factory tools at home... my dad didn't ask him if he was interested in selling etc. needless to say i was a little upset apon hearing this.

I met an old hippy in Belgrave a couple of weeks ago, he said he used to have an oval, and later a '59 bug. He said he still had a big box of parts, with stuff like taillight assemblies, semaphores. Apparently I can get the whole lot for a slab, but I'm still waiting for his phone call. He probably got stoned and forgot.

Yeah, or you just don't have the cash at the time (or the lady who wouldn't sell me her split 'cos I'm not German.)

Shame this thread isn't spelled right.
