Engine Lid Stand Offs - Good or Bad?
What are your thought on those little widgets for extending the engine lid and the body? Them engine lid stand offs! That's it, so yeah.. Any good?

recon they give the bug a tough look. and they even serve a purpose! more air in the engine bay for cooling on hot days!

Hood Jax are the go
VWCool seels them (and designed and makes them)
Best part they are removeable in .... like 15 secs.
If you want the befits / looks put them on
If you want them off for rain / security take em off.
You engine will run 10 - 15 degrees cooler with them on

I have the Empi Version on mine. I just carry a strip of cardboard to cover the opening if it rains. I don't often take the car if it looks like rain
anyway. Gets some comments from people, mostly that my boot is open.

yep I liked Hoodjax so much I bought the company! lol..
Yes I designed them about 15 years ago with my crazy brother when our two Beetles used to run hot racing each other at 180kmh on the Gosford freeway
before the cops invented speed cameras. Well not quite, but you get the idea.
Quick and easy way to drop oil temps by 10 degrees C (typical) to give you more 'reserve' especially in summer. Gets more cold air to hot carbies,
too. And as mentioned, can be removed in 'no time' to keep the rain and thieves out.
I sell them for $70 plus P&P. U2U if you want to know more

Personally I don't like the look of a lid that is standing off. I think it spoils the clean curvy lines of the car. Add to that the number of
people who tell you at the servo "oi mate, your boot isn't closed" and I really don't like stand-offs.

hi i had the fixed type on my t1, it looked cool ran cool and was really happy with em until it rained..
with the twin kadrons set up the water would funnel down into the pots when parked and when driving water would give me untold drama on the
electrials..
so i just didn't drive it in the wet and also nosey people would look in and tamper with the motor, had that done a couple of times, you know wires
off and such..
i got a nice decklid with louvers all over it, fitted it without the standoffs which closed it up and now it runs just as cool..
needless to say driving in the wet is no problemo anymore..
just some things that happened to me with the standoffs.. but i still like the look..
