Custom Hot Rod Bay for sale, unfinished project *****Now open to reasonable offers*****
I dont know why the last thread was locked, but we still havent sold it. We really are giving it away at this price. All the mechanicals/suspension
alone would cost almost as much as this thing is going for if you bought them from a shop.
Overview
Up for sale is a mid-late 70's bay window kombi that has had the wheelbase shortened 3 foot with a fabricated steel stepside tray on the back of it.
Pretty much everything on it is customised. It has been checked over by engineers for the engineers certificate and there are no problems with getting
an engineers certificate to street register it.
Suspension
It has a fully reconditioned front beam which is fully adjustable. There are dropped spindles on the front, as well as machined discs, new bearings
and rebuilt callipers. The rear suspension has drop plates, adjustable spring plates and a rear disc brake conversion. All rotors have been converted
to the holden commodore stud pattern
Engine
The engine is an american import 229ci Chev V6, with a 350 Holley carburettor. Since it was brought into the country it was run in a kombi for 12
months, then it was removed and fully reconditioned. 15000 kms was put on it in the kombi until it was removed from the vehicle to put into this,
where it has been sitting for the past 2 years. It is similar in power and economy to a comodore V6. It has been adapted to a 2 litre kombi automatic
using an adaptor plate and custom flexplate from John Sherman.
Interior
The dashboard is a modified Kombi unit with the standard instrument cluster moved into the middle, set at an angle towards the driver. There are holes
for a tacho and water temp guage as well. There is a custom ventilation/demister system integrated as well.
Other Features
The radiator has been positioned just behined the cabin with a scoop on the front and a duct fabricated through the middle of the cabin. The tray of
the ute can be opened up on gas struts exposing the radiator, petrol tank, gearbox and engine. It has a twin exhaust system with chrome dump pipes.
The fuel filler is integrated into one of the rear guards.
This project has taken my father many many hours over the past couple of years, but he has lost the motivation to finish it. Please ask questions if

that is great! i love the custom type of baywindow,
never mind what the usual Vw enthusiasts say about restoring cars,
that has show winning potential all over it!!! something bout putting a V6 / V8 in a 70's kombi that makes me happy hehe,
that is a big task and is quality built by the looks of it, if i had the room i would love to buy it and prep it for shows and stylish sunday cruzing,
but even with the room factor the V8 kombi keeps me busy enough...

I am tempted, the mechanicals would suit my 1975 bay and later I could get her up and running on the street!
You sure have done a great job on her, just amazing, what a talent you have!

Hmmm , but it is still not a split, but it sure would hall ass, has the trans been over haulded?

i think you would be better off finishing it.
getting it regoed and then selling it for a boat load more. people like to buy things they know they are going to be able to use.

Dubbil, he engine has never been run with the exhaust thats on it at the moment. The exhaust just has some light surface rust which is from sitting
for a while.
Vito, the transmission was rebuilt just before the engine was reconditioned in the previous vehicle. It would have as an estimate around 20,000 kms on
the rebuild and it had a service before it was removed from the kombi it was in. The transmission shifted perfectly.

It sure would be good value the conversion and teh chevy motor stuff alone would be more than $3k dont you think guy's. The V6 would power the 1975
bay camper quite nicely???
Just need to do some number crunching

The v6 went great, it used to be in a 1969 bay. All the suspension stuff is worth quite a bit too considering the dropped spindles, new balljoints and
brakes, fully adjustable beam, rear disc brake conversion, adjustable rear spring plates and the rear drop plates. Try pricing up all this gear on its
own.

mm yep it can power my 75 bay window untl I finish painting it and making sure it woul dpass rego and then it can all go back in again. Best thing
about Kombis is teh ease of swaping donks.
I remeber my first Kombi back in 79 what fun I had jumping in it after work and cruiing somewhere for teh weekend, and it was great!!!

How much work have you put into it or was it all Dad's work?

Surely it wouldn't cost you too much to get it across this wonderful land. if it cost you $500 that makes it still a cheap project with all the hard
yards done.
I saw this beast get built, and there was no skimping or cutting corners. the motor was running strong before it got pulled out of the bus it was in!
