CENSORSHIP OF NEWS?

I went down to Station Pier (Melbourne) last night with my wife, for a walk. When we got there, Police cars were blocking all cars from entering the area, the car park was overflowing, a Police helicopter was searching around only 50 foot above the ground, and a large Navy ship was docked right behind The Spirit of Tasmania. We got talking to some folks and they told us they were on the Spirit of Tassie, when a scuba diver was spotted diving under the ship. The Ship was completely evacuated, the Navy turned up with a team of divers and one huge ship, the Police sealed off the area, and were searching boats and peoples bags on the beach etc, the coast gaurd had boats everywhere, and a chopper was serching the shoreline and piers REAL low, with some big thing hanging out the side, looked like an infra red camera or something.

This went on for hours, with hundreds of people stuck at the pier, total mayhem everywhere, and today there has not been one mention of it anywhere! Could this be part of the new anti terror laws, or was it just not news worthy, cause it seemed to be a pretty big deal.

that is a big deal, i can't beleive it hasn't been on any news. i would have thought it would have been on every staion. damn, what is this world coming to. it,s a big worry that the public is seen as not important enough to be told about things like this.

my brother inlaw is a pilot with qantas, and he has told me stories that i couldn,t beleive. he told me about the laser being pointed at the planes in sydney 8 months ago!

what a farce, we wont know anything untill its to late.

It was on the news last night! Only a small mention though... was probably some poor bugger out for a leisurely swim to stare at barnacles or something ;)

A similar thing happened to me last week... i turned up to work on Swan St in Richmond and there were cops everywhere in bullet proof vests. I asked them what was going on and they said there was a guy with a rifle who was pissed off cos they tried to raid his house. Wasn't mentioned on the news and yet it seemed that every cop in Melbourne was there hiding behind their cars. :)

A few years ago the Melbourne GP was warned of a bomb scare too, and nothing on the news.. People fleeing the stands and panic, but not news worthy?

Yeah I saw that on the news last night, they said they were worried about the Commonwealth games with the diver.
Also saw a news story about the lasers being aimed at airliners, and they said its not just your handheld laser pointers that Uni Lecturers use, but commercial lasers that need a stand and are aimed from about 2 kms away....:o

It's a thin line between media responsibility and public interest.

Besides... imagine the terrorist, whoops, tourism dollars that could be lost just before the rottenwealth games if a scare was raised.

no they shouldn't and wouldn't make it public.

it would cause far too much unnecessary chaos.

if unalerted and unavoidable..people wouldn't worry about what they don't know.

they could live to "the end" of their lives in whatever existence they'd eeked out on the planet.

I'm afraid that the commonwealth games is evoking as much excitement as a primary school friday sports day.

Hi

News on TV doesn’t happen unless they have pictures to show you, blank screens are no good for ratings.
