Oil Light came on !! ??
Hi! The other day I pulled up at trafic light and the oil light came on and stayed on. I Pulled around corner and shut down and checked oil . oil
level ok . ( 2lt engine)
Started up and oil light went out , and hasn't come on again . What could of caused that?? Air lock or something ? Has anyone had the same prob. Is
it something to be concerned about ?
Thanks in advance.

Keep a check on it daily.
As a worst case scenario, my Beetle did this on and off then the light stayed on complete with sudden lovely coloured smoke from my exhaust. Long
story short (and lotsa $$$ later) I now have a 1600 instead of a 1500. :P

Could've been a number of things. Was it a hot day? Was your idle lumpy at the time - nearly stalling? Have you topped it up since? Had you been
driving it long? Have you got any leaks? Could be a slighly low oil level, could be too hot, could be a leak, could be a faulty sender.....

check the oil pressure switch located just behind the distributor, they cost about $20. maybe the wire is loose, could be oily, I've just replaced my
switch (2l motor) oil was leaking everywhere, thought it must have been the fan side crankcase seal, maybe even oil cooler seals, but it turned out
just to be an old worn out oil pressure switch spitting oil all over the place.

Thanks for the replies.
the motor was only warm at the time had done a short run of about 4k since cold. Idle was fast as it always is when motor has been running along at
80k and comes to a stop (fuel injected). Will check wire and sender.
Has not come on again since.
thanks again

high idle, not super hot and plenty of oil... must either be faulty switch or somehow pump sucked up air (unlikely???)
