The Loaded Dog

This is the Dog-O-War outside our new home in Dubbo. We moved house from Newcastle 4 and a half hours west over the Great Dividing Range to inland New South Wales. It took me 5 and a half as the Tranny mounts were all preished and snapped providing a soothing swaying motion above 80k's an hour! All the hills were second gear and with 40 degree heat the motor was often around the +120c mark.

There was about 6 kids bikes, a pedal car, a dolly (moving truck) and about a kilometer of rope. The Baja was fully loaded within as well with fishtank, clothes, esky, plants, aquarium rocks and gardening utensils.

The Loaded Dog.

Our most recent trip from Newcastle to Dubbo proved exciting as well as I had about 400kg's of timber within. The materials for our new queen size bed. The longest lengths were 220mm. The foot well to the back window is 240mm. I put the passenger seat on the roof rack with the spare and packed it all in nice and tight. My navigator was posted to the back seat drivers side. The pics are in the conventional camera so when they have been developed and scanned I'll post them as well.

Yeah thanks Sam - didn't have a flat but good to carry just in case. Since you were just goin to turf it I'm happy to carry it around - just have to get around to fixing the leak one weekend.

Yeah - I love the pic quality. When you budget for a digicamera, spend an extra hundred dollars on the one you think will do you. Get optical zoom and not digital zoom.

Yeah Bronze, If you ever paint the Dog-O-War you must paint it that interesting browny/orangy colour again (sorry but I don't know it's proper name), with the orange and yellow stripes. If you don't, no one will know that it's the Dog.

Though if you really want to improve it you only need to shorten it by about 14 inches. Then you can put a lovely manx body on it.

Hmmm - I think Mr. Plod would have somthing to say about me putting the kids on the roof rack. Not to mention what the wife is going to say about the window winder being left with the old shell.

She'll be right mate - I stick with what works. You just keep enjoying being blasted by my sand.

Update:

Well we have decided on the colour. It's a secret for now but when it's 100 percent done I show you all what the finished result is.

For now the under coat will be going on after some sanding and dechroming. Just forked out a few hundred dollars upgrading the electricals and brighter lights. The pans under the pedal assembly is being replaced - currently there is a VB can patching the previous owners holes. Some mechanicals and the rego.

Hopefully this will all give the Dog a new lease on life and I can stop driving the wifes car for may caches!

Update:

Preperations on the dog are going well.

The paint sampled on the guards is holding up to the weather well and appears to be suitable the hard work and tight places the Dog squeezes into.

Lights, mechanicals, electrics and minor panel repair are all complete. Now just a sand down and respray. Easier posted than done.

Bronze.

Howd'y all,

I'm the Bronze and the pilot of the Dog-O-War.

1600 TP - It's aim is to get in and out of the bush, dunes, creeks, gullies and cities.
The Dog-O-War has some mild modifications, suspension, electrical, exhaust, carb, cage, guards etc.
A 71 model it is reliable and comfortable - believe it or not.

Enough room for a co-pilot, the kids, camping gear and spares / tool it get me where I want to go and turns head while were at it. I love this machine and its heritage. You can call it a bucket of $hit and you'd be right but it my bucket of $hit and you can go and get your own.

The Dog-O-War is no trailer queen although it is getting a paint job at present, thats just because the old paint has fallen, faded, scraped, scratched or been sanded of at some junction in it history. The goal this year is to get it one colour in a paint that wont scratch off.

The Bronze.

maaate!

love the stockton pics, dad and i go there heaps with our 4wd club and i know that treeline all too well (if you squint you will see our landcruiser in there somewhere) unfortunately for us our lifted 60 series had a little too much weight too high off the ground and over we went again and again.

cudos for getting out of that tight spot!
