Want to prepare car but need to drive it.

Okies here is my dilemma im wanting to pain the car im wanting to prepare it all start getting rid of surface rust but i need to drive the car 6 days a week. Is there a way i can prepare (bare metal style) then canspray somethign over it to stop it going bad (hopefully get the whoel car sprayed in about 3 or 4 months.
