some guy on ebay selling a 009 thinks they are the beez knees and every vw should have one :P
i made the mistake of having one on a standard engine once
i'd gladly give away the 3 or 4 i have if i could find where the hell they are

there fine if u dont have a stock cam and twin carbs but on anything stock or close to they are a pig
i had one on a 1600 superbug wiht a twin barrel holley bugspray carb which is the worst combination u can come up with but even switching to a 34pict still ran like a dog till i put a svda on
unless u spend ages bandaid-ing things they dont work properly on later engines
old 1200s seem to work alright with them

Joel,

I have a couple of Bosch 034's which are the same as a 009 but with vac advance. Only trouble is they need shimming as up and down movement has nearly wrecked my electronic setup & I had to go back to running points. Any chance of you finding a couple of those 009's so I can steal the shims out of them ?? I'm assuming even a new one would have at least one or two shims to set it up, I may be wrong.

Matt.

like i said it can work fine if u spend the time setting it up prperly
i just never had much luck getting the carb to perform smoothly
had a nice top end power increase but down low was too rough for round town and cold starting
but hey if it works for u go for it

Sounds like you had a plenum manifold when I first got it thats what it came with but they run horrible with them and I think thats where they get there bad rep from. I have the oppisite problem now it makes around 1 kw less at 2500 then at peak.
