try a k&n filter, extractors and bigger free flowing exhaust.
i had a GTI auto and it was really sluggish, come good when it was changed to manual.

GTi slugs

I've got a 90 GTi manual goes ok but is no ball O fire, probably the most cost effective mod is to put a bigger engine from a later model.

links to look at;
www.vwwatercooled.org.au

vwvortex.com/8V forum

www.clubgti.com off line at the moment but should be back on soooon!

yeah and put a manual in it that would have to be the first up grade, get in touch with Brian @ GTI imports in Sydney or Matt (golfloon) on the Aust watercooled forum for gboxes and motor upgrades!

enjoy.

Big valve flowed head, balanced bottom end, cam and adjustable cam gear. Should go hard. Oh, you said easy... 2.0L 8V replacement engine.

Look for a european spec motor aussie mk2 gti's were a joke (tame cams etc)
automotaic gti's are even funnier
easily fixed by trading in
some bloke had a nice red 3 door with ats wheels and factory sunroof at the nationals for $6000 I kind of wish that I got his phone number

BTW, my mods have yielded 101bhp at the wheels, and does a 7.5 sec 100 sprint. It cost a bit, though. The 2.0 8V mod is cheaper, and the 5 speed is the go too.

Autos are slugs. Its not a hard conversion, I`ve done a few and have the bits to do a few more! The car is great fun to drive as a manual, but the aussie ones are downtuned and have 20hp less than the UK ones. Get an import engine, or slap in a 16v.

Check out http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newforum/upload/  for ideas

Cheers
Matt
