Well done Gary coming along quick now , you could bead roll a tailgate shape into the back panel or air brush .
Least you have plenty of room for wheelie bars and chute holder later .
Good colour to .

Took it out last Saturday to give it a try out.Had some serious overfuelling problems from idle and up to about 2,500 revs.I have a standard VW convertor in it still, but it just wouldn't drive from rest without flooding the motor and stalling.I managed to get 2 half arsed runs in-but with both runs the motor didn't clear itself of fuel till about half track-then all hell broke loose as it came on boost. The last run got me through the lights at 91mph,so I am almost 100% happy with it.We are doing a computer link up one night this week with the Tuner, and he will pull a lot of fuel out below 2000 rpm.I am still having some oil mist coming from a couple of pushrod tubes-what do you blokes consider to be the best brand tubes to use?

Glad to see that you got it out on the track.
hopefully it won't take the tuner much to sort out.
when are you planning to go back out to the track?
you've got to post some vids for us ;)

Our next meet here is May 11- my priorities now are to have the rear body fully painted,a new hi stall convertor done and of course get the fuel map sorted. If all this doesn't happen b4 May 11, then I will be ready for the meet after that.

great to hear Gary , that you have way too much fuel supply .... it is easy to take small amounts out , it is a lot harder to find extra fuel supply or even repair a torched engine .
Very well done mate , looking forward to hearing and seeing how your car goes as you pull fuel out and get a cleaner tune :tu::tu::tu:

I like that-must be made of some good gear.Being so close to exhaust etc, would get seriously hot.Had planned on making an ally catch pan to sit under the motor and make it easily removable.

I have heaps of fuel available still. The injectors are no where near maxed out at full revs under load and I have a 1400 HP pump,so have a lot left in the pump also.

I had some issues with the blue hose that I bought which was Methanol / Oil resistant ( came highly recommended from the hose guy here) It turned out to be shit.It was made from some type of plastic and as soon as it got hot it went hard and wouldn't seal any more.I have changed it all now for some good braided hose.I have made an aluminium catch pan to go under the engine and bellhousing- just in case it springs a leak.It can be removed by just one spring loaded clip.Engine tuner let me down last week-have locked in a definate time this Monday.

Looking for some info-what do you blokes who are running Methanol with electronic injection do after each meet? Are ther any special things you do to keep everything clean and prevent any alloy corrosion? I have heard of different things that are done to prevent the fuel system getting sludge build up with the Methanol going to jelly.

Put a tune in it to run on pump fuel, doesn't need to be anything special just enough to start and run, make sure you've got a drain plug in the tank to drain the methanol and run a few litres of unleaded through to flush it out

It sure is a good feeling now it's ready- but a bit wary that it will scare the shit out of me when I give it the first full power run. Thanks for that tip Troy, will ring the tuner bloke tomorrow to see what he can organize. I remember he put 2 tunes into it related to ambient temperature. It gets really cold here at night after fairly warm days, so I can put a different tune in it to run after dark.

Get your injectors cleaned and flowed regularly. Dave has found the injectors to be a constant maintenance issue with the meth. I know he won't see this so I answered it for him, I'm sure he'd stress the same thing.

Hi Gary , firstly I would like to congratulate you on a very unique and awesome quality build , that ute of yours looks fantastic mate .

Us guys at Team WPVW all use methanol fuel in both our injected & carburetted drag bugs . We run a methanol fuel additive from VP Racing Fuels Inc . This additive has a scented candy smell which helps with the 'eye burning' issues from the methanol exhaust fumes , and is designed to protect all aluminum fuel system parts . It also lubricates the valve guides and valves .

If we are competing at race meetings within 3-4 weeks of each other , we leave the fuel in our cars ..... if the meetings are months apart we drain the entire fuel system and flush it out with unleaded fuel . The injected cars we plug into the Microtech and remove 40% fuel from the mixture trim and they run smoothly .

Ben Ford has not raced his bug since November and the same fuel still sits in it now ..... we checked his fuel system prior to starting it with the new injection system a couple of weeks ago and found no signs of contamination / jelly .

Additive is the go , I use to flush with BP Zoom (oil in petrol) but later switch to VP Additive and this stop the jelly blobs But
the other best thing to do is just run your car every couple weeks ( keeps fuel from drying out in the system every where ).
The flow level line is the corrosion piont ( fuel level meets the air level ) this is when the white powder stuff comes from , I use to seal off the fuel tank as well from the air ( stops moisture entering and corrosion in alloy fuel tank )
Cast alloy is mostly what gets atttack .

Thanks for the info fellas. Wayne, appreciate your comments- I have been using that additive in the fuel, but had no idea about it's protection properties as you have mentioned. Have got a 50% fuel map coming. Checked out the new body wrap yesterday- love it. He has to do the lamination still, can then start fitting it.

Started on a set of ladder bars for my car this week. Can't believe how many hours go into this stuff.Used 7/8" C/M tube and fabricated the wheel brackets from some 100X50X4mm RHS.Had an Australian flag put on the rear spoiler and the side wrap goes on this week.
