I can't say i blame him though.. theres times my dub has had a problem at the worse times and i've used a few exotic words myself.

And he spent how much on that thing?

And its had problem after problem through the series.. the guy that restored must have done a pretty crappy job!

I think half the problem is the way he treats it.Reakon a subaru motor would have been perfect for it

Restored or not, the car is how old???? Those that want new car performance from an old restored car need to get out of dreamland.

Luke Theorachi (spelling is incorrect I am sure) in the UK did the resto to my knowledge - he turns out some wicked rides...but as you say, its a 50 year old car.

I understood it was overfilled with oil and then someone flew out from UK to fix but said it would need complete strip and rebuild when it got back.

I recently saw (series 3 ?) of Top Gear and The Stig takes Jamies Split around the test track for a fast lap.
To make it interesting, Jamie had to make a salad dish in the back while The Stig was racing.
As you guessed....... the dish went everywhere.

If he had so many problems, wouldnt it be the bloke who put it together that should get the bollocking? I mean I would be pretty pissed at that sort of thing if I paid someone a mega dollar money is no object amount for a resto and those sorts of things happened.

you gotta remember jamie knows nothing about mechanics & he admits that
he has done some stupid stuff to the van & he admits that, if you heard him
say he thinks he has been driving around on two cylinders for a while without
realising it shit that would'nt do it any good, maybe he was low on oil too we
will nether know but i have read on ssvc that allthoe he is selling the 23 he is
replacing it with another split so i read.
so give him credit for what he likes he wants & with he's money wouldnt you go
all out to have the best you can, the man trully likes splits just as a mechanic he's
a good cook.
but what impressed me a lot was the school food nothing is allowed to be fried &
mcdonalds shut down in the village after 3 months for me thats 10 out of 10:thumb

AGREE with ya winerot.......He doesnt make any apologies for himself, which is pretty impressive.......
His unmistakeable passion for food is SOOO evident....he loves it, and understands the real nature of cooking amazing food....... its the 'care factor' its the LURVE! .... which I'm sure a lot of the people here can appreciate, as it's that same care factor that produces some of the amazing VW's I've seen.............his craziness can easily be forgiven....
still a bit of a twat though
;)

I'm with kroozzn62, I've had words with my Bug.. Bad words.. But what else can ya do? Bottle it up?! :D

His passion is food, and to be fair he was on his way to his 30th BirthdayBash when it happened.. He wanted to have a GrandEntrance and ended up on the back of a FlatBed.. I really sympathised with him..

What I did find funny is that after all the slagging of his VW, he's trying to sell it! Hardly good advertising

He's not illiterate, his tongue is just too big for his mouth.

And drizzle is a real word.

Oxford English Dictionary (the last word in what is English language)

drizzle, v.

Add: 5. Cookery. trans. To pour or let fall in trickles over the surface of food; also, to cover in this way. Also intr. of the coating: to run in trickles.

yeah, only good and sympathetic mechanical ppl should be able to own them :?::?::?::?:

If that was the case half this list would be rideless.

He has his talents, and being a right essex geeza is one of them. He can cook up a storm, save the schoolkids (the poms eat the worst diet in EU) get down and out kiddies a trade (15)

so

I forgive him his chequebook resto and mechanical naivity.

Id love to share a pint or three with him :beer:beer

anyone know what episode of top gear it was?

dunno about you, but I know a number of mechanically aware people who made really stupid mistakes one after the next...just like Jamie. I was one of them, so cut him some slack eh? VW are mystery to lots of mechanics, why should a humble chef be any different. ;)

Ahh no, the correct cooking term is 'drizzle'...

And the Kombi has a big fat engine in (upright P911 fan etc), not an 1100, and Porsche alloys etc so you would expect to get a coupla trouble free months it of it at least!

He worked to earn rhe money to own it so he is entitled to be a true VW driver, he even gets shitty with it (as you do)
