im planning on replacing decklid & bonnet seals. anyone with pointers or hints. or is it just lubrication and persistence? thanks rob |

I suggest you spary some rust converter on the seal metal retainers before you fit the new seals.
usually the end of the metal lips are bent to hold the seals in place, so you might only have to bend these a bit to allow the seal to slide in, you
could use some vasoline to make the seal slide easier

I find stretching the seal as it is pushed in makes it thinner and easier to get in. Along with lube of course. KY jelly works well - seriously

the other thing you can do is grind that little lip that holds the seal in (this is a good option if that little strip is half rusted out anyway) and
use the seals that fit to tne lid instead of the body. yuo can buy teh mexican type (had a bit of trouble getting this, but finaly came through) or
clark rubber have one that glues on. here's a pic of the glued on seal, and of the lip that i ground off (you can see the section i havnt ground yet
on the black apron)

just an update,got the decklid seal on today(not an easy job).used wd40 as the lube. had three sets of hands all of which were appreciated. hopefully
boot seal will be easier. rob |
