fitting new tailpipes


the chaps at cvd have kindly sold me a pair of tail pipes(perforated on the inside). seems like a simple operation, are there any tricks orproblems i should expect to encounter? thanks rob.:bounce:bounce:bounce:bounce:bounce:bounce:bounce

Yep

used the expanded mesh clamps - not the crappy ceramic/fibre type.

The mesh ones seal HEAPS better.
I could NOT get a solid clamp on my heater box with 1/2 a daz goes.
1st go using the mesh style

old ones can be a real challange to get out
i've usually gotten them out with heaps of soaking with wd40
but one muffler i had they where just so rusted in i cut them off then chisseled out what was left inside the flange part
double check the tightness off the new ones every couple of days they tend to work loose for the first week or so
barrys right to the mesh type seals are heaps better than those asbestos looking ones which fall apart
if ur really worried about loosing ur new tail pipes one trick i used to do when i had pea shooter exhaust was tackweld one half of the clamp (bottom half works better) to the pea shooter then just install the clamp like normal
stops them pulling out when they scrape

Have had the unfortunate incident where one came out of the old beetle on the freeway. Hit a poor kids windscreen on his old XD. The shooter was not expensive to replace, but the windscreen cost me $160

Another idea is to "pin" punch the side of the flange to "dimple" it and make it near impossible to get the tail pipe out.
You then have to sort of screw it out.
Stuffs the tail pipe but stops it flying out.

Happened to me once years ago.

the other most important thing to remember is not to push them too far into the muffler, only as far as the internal pipe goes or a litle less is better other wise it will restrict the exhaust flow.

To get them out easily you can heat up the muffler exits gently with a blowtorch, the tail pipes will then slide out without too much effort.
