Swap indicator stalk to other side?
I'm thinking about swapping the indicator stalk to the other side in my 1959 beetle. It gets very confusing having it on the left when the Subaru I
regularly drive has it on the right! Is it going to be as simple as undoing the stalk at the base, swapping two wires inside the base, and swinging
it around to the other side of the steering column? Is the column just smooth all round?

Sell the subi and buy an Audi. Then all your cars will have it on the left side.

OK, actually I don't! I just assumed that it would be necessary because the thing would be upside down, but now that I think about it, the wires
will still be correct after I've slid it round to the other side.

Round on the side facing down before you move it and flat on the upper surface. A few washers will fix the problem.

I'm terrible when i go to drive anything else apart from the bug. I go looking for reverse where 2nd gear usually is, I try putting the key in the
ignition on the passengers side of the dashboard, I go looking for the radio in the glovebox...
damn, driving a v-dub is fun

I think all cars from europe have the blinkers on the LHS..
My Sister in Laws Astra convertible does....
& Her Husband switches the wipers on in their falcon every time they are going round a corner... LOL...
AS other people have said... its different driving a Beetle
so Your remember where things are.....
I wonder what the correct side is???
probably no correct answer.....

Sometimes it's about LHD vs RHD cars. A manufacturer puts the indicator on the correct side for whatever side of the car the driver is on... then
when they make a few cars for other countries they use the same steering column / indicator assemblies.

Can the whole column be rotated (easily)? To reverse the wiper side as well.

i dont know if the dash in ur car would allow it as i havent seen it but it would be abit more difficult on a late column as they use push on plug
connecters and the wiper switch would end up pointing down at the gear stick when off and some where around ur left leg when switched to hi so i
wouldnt recomend it

My car is a kit and the column basically goes through a hole in aluminium plate, but thanks, I hadn't thought of the wipers on max. I guess I should
do some measuring.

Mine is a '59 so the wipers are controlled by a knob on the dash, I have no idea how the wipers are set up on later bugs. The steering column in
mine is just a plain round tube, and the only thing on it is the indicator stalk.
