stuffed thread on alternator
I have just had my alternator rebushed and cleaned up and when i went to put the pully on the tread on the shaft stipped probably due to a doggy nut
but what are my options does anyone on the Nth side of Brissy have a tool for putting a new thread on the shaft or do i have to replace the hole
shaft.
any help would be much appreciated
cheers

your local metalshop/metal engineer will be able to do it no worries, or you could try using a tap and die set to clean up the thread

Just rethread it to a smaller size and use a nut to suit, ideally you would make a nut that has the same across the flats as the original, have had to
do this before with a steering column on another make of car.:thumb

i have a problem like this on my genny.
the thread is really worn.
the old nut was also very worn.
i went and got a couple of hi tensile nuts with perfect threads which managed to bite into what thread i had left and thats how it is staying for the
moment.
