I hate my car sometimes.

So, Ive been all pumped lately cause I finally booked my car in for a roadworthy for tommorrow, so it will be registered at last. Ive been busily running round getting stuff fixed, cleaned, adjusted, oiled etc and I thought I might take it tonight and steam clean under the engine and transaxle.

BAD IDEA

After I cleaned it, it was having a hard time starting, so I kept trying, and trying until the six volt battery was getting real low. I thought to myself,"better give it a rest", when my starter motor decided to start turning over on its own! Quick rip up the back seat, get grease everywhere, disconnect battery, rack my brains for a few minutes, connect battery again, same thing, shit!

So I get out my trusty hammer and give the starter a hit,
blow dry the wires, and give em a shake, connect battery, all good. Now however my battery is flat. Shit shit shit .

Find a jumper battery(12 volt), jumpstart the old girl, and away she goes. Yay, thank god. running a little rough but probably just a bit of moisture, no big deal. Away i go.

100 yards down the road and she stalls. I turn the key, and bam, no more starter motor.Shit shit shit shit.

So now Im push starting her, which I have to do 2 more times on my trip home, which is now in the dark, and my generator is doing stuff all in the way of charging the battery. And the car is missing like a bitch, until 2 streets from home.

So finally home in the garage, and a few minutes work later, problem found. Someone has wired a relay into the loom for the starter solenoid, and its now full of greasy water. My battery is flat, and my only 6 volt charger is
a VERY slow trickle charger.

So now instead of getting that roadworthy tommorrow, I will be trying to find someone with a 6 volt relay, and wating for my battery to recharge.

I am no longer pumped about my car. I f@#KING HATE IT!

I sympathise with you Hertz! Sounds similar to me as I was heading out on last cruise......still not fixed 2 weeks later! Bad timing!
The rent-a-car is just making sure that through bad times we learn to appreciate the good ones..like picking up that trophy and the many that are sure to be ahead.....because that car is freakin'awesome!

G'day Josh,

Mate, it's all part of the VW learning experience!!!! If I had a dollar for every time something like that happend with mine or the families VWs I'd be able to retire by now I reckon.

Ok it caused a little inconvenience at the time but you'll sort out the problem yourself with a bit of help from other VWers, so get it fixed and start driving it again and the "hate" will fade and the "love" will come back.

Try fixing these sort of problems yourself on a modern car, most of them cost at least a weeks pay just to have a standard service.

Cheers, Ian.

It's a pain in the butt when things go pear shaped.:bounce But the more you persevere with it, the more you learn about your car and save $$$. Everyone I know reckons my 6volt notch should be 12 volt as it's a daily driver. Who cares? As long as you enjoy the car for all it's faults, weaknesses and fun times you have in it then what more do you want from it?:spin:

OK its ready for that roady now. After adjusting the clutch AGAIN, replacing the regulator(thanks heaps Mark for the help), rebuilding my carb, adjusting my clutch ONCE AGAIN, fixing that left indicator, straightning my steering wheel, getting that bloody horn working, and cleaning the huge mess i made of the shed, I almost sure that I can take it in for the check. Bloody hell
