battery arked out and welded to lid
what damage is done when a battery welds itself to its metal lid.
went to start the car this am but its dead. suspected battery terminals loose from a bit of rough road last evening. in the dark had to pry the
battery lid off as it had arked out and welded its self to it.
no time to look at or do anything else so jumped on dirtbike and road to work (drizzling).
will investigate further tonight. whats the best/worst case.
is it possible that i have just fried the battery and thats it or will it have fried deeper wiring...

my guess is the plates wil have buckled and the battery is wallaby Ted's brother
Current wil go round and round in the battery
Wiring "should" be ok

and your best bet would be to glue some rubber sheeting to the underside of the lid:thumb

thanks guys. hopefully it is limited to a nuked batteria. will improve battery retaining system and will improve insulation to battery box
lid....
i just hope it hasent blown the side out of the battery and is leaking acid everywhere (as happened to a mates baja when the uncovered battery met
the seat springs).

it will be limited to the battery as the current will go accross the plate only - path of least resistance.
all other wiring will be ok.
see.... air and water do mix

I agree with everyone else.....
the battery is probably cactus..... [no good]
but the wiring should be OK....
It would have been a Large short circuit.....
Battery terminal to battery terminal.......
I've always used a large thick piece of rubber to cover My
VWs batteries.... or a truck mud flap is ok too...
Battery should be located, ie fixed to the floor so it cannot move....
Lucky the battery didn't blow, and spew acid everywhere.

thanks guys. whipped home mid arvo to check it out.
pos terminal had melted a hole in the lid and that seemed to hav stopped futher probs.
battery hadnt blown, still had 4volts in it. too it out and put it on a charge. when i got home tonight it was bubbling nicley. put it back in and
started fine. just got home from a 50km drive to charge it back up. so far so good.
now have to find a better mounting system and unsulate the lid a bit better. i have some old mud flaps waiting. haha
