Insurance Hassles!

Hello guys how are you all doing? Haven't been on here for a while.

Well I have been aircooled-less for a few months now, and I finally found one to get me back into the club

but I'm having trouble finding insurance!

The car is a fully restored '76 Beetle, with a few mods and accessories. I gave Shannons a ring (they were cheap for my bomb '60, only $13 per month 3rd party only) and they wanted $2200 per year for premium! NO WAY!

I rang RACQ and stupidly told them that the car's only lowered in the front, and they won't insure. I rang Just Cars and would not budge on the insured value of $4000 - $600 per year.

The trouble is that I'm only 20. Actually, 21 in an hour!

Who else should I try?

Thanks!
Alex

Try Vigil and also GIO have a Classic car policy, and NRMA have a classic car policy. You will get there :)

Oh and one more thing. Join a VW club and you may find that Shannons or others will respond differently.

:sandrine
Suncorp in Brisbane was fairly cheap when I had the bug registered up there...cos of its age it was classed as a classic vehicle & was very cheap to insure.
Try them....

Suncorp, are doing great deals on 30 years or older cars. My mother had her beetle insured with my 20yr brother as a listed driver for under $200 full comp. I used to be insured for the beetle with them, but they refused when i went for a higher value and listed all the mods, they wouldn't insure it as it is calssed as a race car (though only goes on the track about 1 or 2 times a months and spends more time on the road). I am now with shannons, but i know they are pretty harsh on young ppl, i gave up when i was under 22.

They aren't harsh on young people per se, just people who have no demonstable low-risk history with modified or classic car ownership. In other words, you have to earn the right to get insurance at a good price

I found that too when I was ringing for insurance as a young little thing, comprehensive couldn't even be thought of. I had 3rd party fire & theft for two years until the comprehensive prices dropped enough for me to afford it, and that way too I had 2 years insurance under my belt so better no claim bonus. :)

give GIO a go, Im 19 and Im with them, they took on my kombi for about $350/year (with only a $1800 value) but then as my type3 wagon is over 30 years old i get full vintage comprehensive, salveage rights, $2800 value for a beater type3 and all for $250. and they are happy to do agreed value if you send in a valuation from someone reputable.

forgot to mention, the kombi is a camper with a scobydoo motor, so not exactly standard.
