f'ing electronic ignition!
Hey guyz, had a break down today... was stopped watching the surf then turned off engine and went to start and nothing... no spark, so chucked in the
old points and had it running but setting the timing when i saw the condensor arching (couldnt find where to mount it)... anyways ended up having the
engine running but then fried the condensor so got a lift home with a mate...
is there any way i can check my electronic ignition to see if it is truely cooked and are the repairable? If not whats the most reliable brand/model
of electronic triggering ignition? (not keen to go bak 2 points but will for time being).

You can mount a condenser on anything metal....
On a Mitsubishi L300 I had many years ago....
It used to burn out condensers... about every 6 months or so... so i used to have spares already mounted on the body and just hooked one up when
needed.....

I like the factory earlyWasserboxer (1.9lt) dizzy.
Very reliable and replacement parts are available.

Do you need to get the whole ignition system (coil,
distributor etc) or just distributor? And any ideas how much $$$ this would set me back in second hand form?

also intrested, whats the timing curves like? suit a t4?
got her home tonite, and timing light carked it so was running home pinging baaad. At least shes in her warm bed now.
i guess its decision time now, what sorta elect ignition should i go for? Pertronix? compufire? this suby dizzy?
should the ignition be coverd by warranty or anything?
any tests i can do to make sure its dead?

what ignition did you have? what coil did you use it with?
i've the compufire with stock coil, trouble free since instal 4 years ago.
for type 4 the stock distributor would be the best, for centrifugal advance only the 050.

mite grab a compufire then. sounds like the upmarket version of the accufire. Im not sure what coil, mayb worth getting a new one to go with the new
elect ignition.
What coil are you running? is your car a daily driver?

coil is a bosch unpainted type. bus does around 10000km per year, half on that on the open road.

I recently installed an Accufire/Magfire which I believe is the same or similar to the EMPI version. Installation was very easy. (Take the diozzy
out!) However, I had to shave the rotor to make it fit on my 76 efi Bay. |

I found out (the hard way) ...dont leave ignition on when not running ...they burn out real quick |

yea, i was aware of this and was careful to avoid it. The little module's epoxy encasement went from white to yellowish i think from heat but i never
really left the ign on without the engine running for more than say 10s. Just ordered the pertronix etc so hopefully will have better luck with this
one.
