Type 3 Wanted
Well thanks to everyone who’s been sending me info. I’ve been searching hard but not luck as yet.
I've decided that I want a 67-69 type 3, white or beige (light colour) with either brown/black interior preferred.
I know it’s specific!
It can be earlier than 67 but would prefer 12V + discs brakes but not 70’s (want old shape).
My partner has a new job so I need this car for a daily ASAP.
Condition good to very good (no rust).
Will pay and travel. Feel free to phone (08 8346 5451 or 0421353075) or email (nickandem@adam.com.au) or U2U.
Cheers
Nick

discs and early body shape would make it '69 only I think.
Not sure on the colours available, but I can't remember seeing a beige '69 before.
There was a nice '69 fasty for sale in Adelaide not long ago, search some old posts.
Good luck, their a great car to own!

68 and 69 have discs and early body shape. Disc conversion from drum to discs is easy on any type 3 .beetle and kombi are a bloody nightmare to
convert.

I just got a '69 Fasty from Adelaide, but it wasn't advertised.
This one sounds great for a rust-free Fasty, but it's late shape... http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=52320
This one's in Brisvegas but does have a little rust... http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=52180
Good luck finding one! :thumb

Not to sound like a grouchy sod...but You will probably be waiting a very long time to specifically get a perfect condition 69 fasty OR notch in beige
or white... its just not on the cards. :duh
You reallly should just take the next one you can find in your pricerange that meets all other criteria EXCEPT the color... regaardless of whether it
is pink, purple, black or whatever, you will at least have a reliable car that wont rust underneath you.
A car can be resprayed after all...
Sorry to be an asshat...but when it comes to buying a decent classic motor vehicle of any kind, it doesnt pay to be picky about superficial things
like the the color... if you are picky then more often than not you will be waiting years. The fact remains type 3's were made in far fewer numbers
than the bug or kombi, and the fasty is the least common of the lineup.
Cheers!

Hi Kieran,
Yeah your grouchy sod.............he he. I do take your point though. I've been around classic cars my entire life, so I do know about the rarity and
difficulty to find one!
I wanted to set the bar high to start with, and move back for there. Which I’m pretty much there!!! I would like to pursue the year model though for
a little longer!!
Another one of my problems has been price. I'm looking around 5 - 6K at the momement. There have been some great cars around 8K, and a heap for
cheap. Once again I may have to compromise, but I though I'd be in the right range.
So any 68 – 69 notches or squares out there let me know!!!! Or maybe just any pre 70’s!!!!!

So how much did Dean at Volkspower want for that ruby red fasty Pettles, saw that it did not meet the reserve on ebay and was at about $3600. Surely
that one could be had for under $6000. looked pretty clean and orig from pics

Hi Pat, Dean was talking between $7000 - 8000 from memory. It was fairly high and maybe a little optimistic upfront (maybe the ebay bidding confirmed
this?). From what I've seen, I reckon (my option only) is worth about 4ish. I guess I'm concerned with a car that is fully original and untouched
that more work (particularly engine) will be required in the not to distant future. Maybe I'm being naive?

If it has a good body on it I'd day snap it up if it enters your price range.
It's easier to rebuild or replace an engine than to chase rust.

Saying that...if the car hasnt been thrashed then there is nothing wrong with an original engine... just have to be drive conservatively (ie don't
make a habit of dragging off at lights, pulling 'nuts and shifting at 4000 revs! )... main thing to watch for is case cracks... but that risk exists with any engine retaining its original magnesium crankcase, as
most probably do.
I've heard of splitters that are running to this day and have never had the engine out in 30 years. :bounce
Cheers!

Hey pettles, hope you find something soon!
My Fasty was a bargain, you should have snapped it up but I'm glad you didn't! I'll be throwing a few $$$$ at it and he will be one sweet car.
I think to find an original one in great condition is rare and will cost a lot more dollars. If you do get a clean car for $2k, and have to spend
another $2k on it fixing little things, you've got a great car for $4k.

Hi Pretty Blue,
Thanks for your comments. We were seriously considering your car, but were looking for a driver straight up!!! It did look good!!!
Paint is becoming less of an issue, as I've resigned myself to respray (if needed) early on. Have slightly gone off the fastback for the moment
though, and are heading towards a notch or square. Defiantly understand your 2 + 2K comment though. I have a few new leads at the moment, so we’ll
wait and see. Looking forward to seeing pics your machine on the road real soon.
