I am so frustrated
I am so frustrated.
I am fitting a Subi engine into my Type 1 based Manx SR and it is driving me crazy.
I am trying to fit the surge tank, pre-filter, fuel pump and main filter into the space below the fuel tank, on the left hand side.
After hours of welding pipes to the main tank and making the surge tank over the past few days, today, I fitted it all together and cut and connected
the hoses.
There are hoses going from the main tank, to the surge tank, to a pre-filter, to the pump, to the main filter, to the outlet pipe to the engine and
from the return pipe to the main tank. Then a breather hose goes from the top of the surge tank to the top of the main tank and a hose goes from the
top of the main tank, to the original fuel pipe, to go to the charcoal cannister.
It looks like a half eaten bowl of spaghetti. There are hoses everywhere, rubbing on each other, and the bodywork of the car and just missing the
steering arm, the brake line and the steering dampener. It looks crappy. There is no way its going to pass inspection, let alone me accepting it.
Dammit!! Back to the drawing board.
I can't fit the pump at the rear of the car so I am stuck with it all. I can fit the main filter at the back and I may do so. I am now going to have
to make a metal pipe setup which can be clamped securely to something solid and which will look good.
It is taking so long to built this car as nearly everything needs to be designed and re-designed many times.
Needless to say. I stormed out of the shed, slammed the door, cursed to the sun, moon and sky and the little blighter of a car can rot until
tomorrow.
I am so frustrated.

man - need to rub the lobes of your ears and do a little "woosaah" - go to a happy place
seriously though - alot of respect for the work you're doing :thumb - sounds like you're getting there even if it is slow at times!
can definately relate to the "maybe there is no light at the end of the tunnel" feeling and mind-set you get with modding/customising dubs hehe
sounds like you know whats in store and have a reasonable idea of how to go about it - hang in there - will pay off in the end!
keep in mind the teachings of the many jedi-knights - that frustration leads us to the dark side of the force

I know your pain dude. Getting it all right is such a pain. The main thing is not to rush it. Have patience, do one thing at a time, pump first,
pre-filter next, etc. Also, at some leve you need be prepared to settle for less...if you know what I mean. Coz unless it's a megadollar purpose
built drag/show car, it's always going to be a little less than perfect aesthetically. I personally go for solutions that work and that are
reversable if you need them to be. Also, make sure you don't need to pull the car apart to get the filters and pumps.
BTW, Not sure if this helps ya, but my supply pump and prefilter is at the front and my surge tank and high pressure pump is at the back on the
torsion bar housing.

Gentlemen. Thanks for you encouragement. It was really just a dummy spit at the end of an another unproductive day. I know what I want and what I need
to do, but it does go slowly at times.
For example. I have had to fit steel side intrusion bars to the doors which now weigh 10 kilograms instead of about two. They lift as they are
butterfly or scissor doors like a Lambo Countach. I needed to built extra strong support into the roll cage assembly to fit gas struts and reinforce
the fibreglass in the doors. The door latches are Beetle bonnet catches, which I have modified to be double click to comply with the ADRs. I had a set
machined up for me. When it came to fit them I could get them to latch, but they would not release easily as they are too long and the door closes in
a circular movement, not straight up and down. I spent all one day attempting to solve that problem on the drivers's side door. Now the catches are
spring loaded and work just fine. I had a brain wave at about 3 a.m. one morning to get the solution. Once I knew how to solve the problem the
passenger's side door went on in a couple of hours. The problems associated with this exercise are keeping my poor overtaxed little brain working
overtime. I never stop thinking of what needs to be done, in what order and what I need to do to stop other problems arrising during the whole
process. It's the need to anticipate problems and to solve them before they arise that is keeping me awake at nights sometimes.
Don't feel sorry for me. I'm OK. It's all coming together and soon enough it will be over, but it is very frustrating at times.

yikes, sounds like a weapon you are building, a couple of ideas for the installation, is there any chance that all of the tricky fuel bits can be
hidden either in the front of the car, say in part of the spare wheel well (therefore still being below the level of fuel tank) or in the engine bay
with some form of protection?

Can you build the surge tank inside the fuel tank? It is not technically ipossible.
