thats what i thought, u see em burnin' them hard up hills offroad.

Spose these guys just are too restricted to the bitumen Haha.

Too many mixed views, but i did believe what Mick H was saying originally. :P:P

Thanx for the confirmation, i feel confident now to push my bug when it runs :D I should be able to go pedal to the metal on the 1300 or 1500, the single port acts as a rev limiter anyways.

Boozer was giving his car a nice high rev in the dirt at klubfest :D

Must be an offroader thing, HAHA

Wot a load of crap.:puke I've got one hear that has been to 8000 several times. My buggy went to 6200 rpm everytime i drove it:repuke.....if the motor is standard it will take some abuse, but generalizing about "5000 revs in any VW engine, let alone a type 1 is absolute insanity" is rubbish. Your 2 liter would rev to 6000rpm easily if it could breath....:kiss:beer:beer:rudolf

I wont argue with the man...not too much anyway. :kiss

what I meant was... assuming a stock engine... yes, Im sure it can rev out waaaay past 4000...at least to 5000....but I can not see any way that can be good for a crappy magnesium type 1 crankcase unless one has a counterbalanced crank at the very least. I wouldnt see any problem with a quick blip up to 5000 between changing up gears, but I took Chris to mean running at 5000 revs frequently and/or for a prolonged period... that could not possibly be doing the stock engine any favours.

Speaking just from my own experience driving a few *stock* VW's... they scream there asses off and can get particularly harsh not much above above 4000 revs.

The fact remains that a 1300 or 1500 VW engine were never designed to rev that high for any sustained period. :duh

So in short I dont think I made my point entirely clear in the first spate of abuse :P

The point of my argument is... even tho a *stock* VW motor is capable of revving at some pretty high speeds, it wasnt designed to take that kind of punishment as a matter of course for *sustained* periods of time... like mudbashing with the motor screaming in 2nd or 3rd gear.

Throw a couterweighted crank, aluminium crankcase, mild cam, sodium filled valves, and a bigass fan into the equation, then have the engine proffessionally balanced to top it all off, and I could see how the story could be different. :)

But I'm gonna stick to me guns about not abbusing a *stock* engine as a matter of course... :tu:   :P:beer:

us offroaders need to punish it, tis the way we need to get over obstacles :D We are likes beastiality to our dubs. Just wait till i show the the before and after pics of my chopping baja conversion, hehe.

Domination over the lil' bug

Go to http://www.klubvwoffroad.org/STOCKTON0406/Stockton406.wmv

Ya can't putt putt ur way up those hills :D hehe

But i see where u comin from.
People do this day in day out with no worries. IT just depends on the original quality of the engine. Alot of buggies just run stock motors. and the only way to really get any where is to give em some hard pedal.

the real things that kill it is heat and dirt. They are the dubs worst enemy more than anything, and there are easy ways to prevent those factors from becoming an issue.

thanks chris, got an exam tomorrow that I think I'll be lucky to pass. I'm doing a batchelor of business, but I'm still not sure if it's what I want to do.

schmoburger: thanks, I'll probably need a few pointers when i get the Kombi. I want to start working on it because I don't know too much about working on cars, but really want to learn. Luckily my dad used to work as a mechanic when he was in uni, so he'll be able to give me a few pointers:thumb

as for the revving, my current car's got a pretty low-revving engine and I've never taken it past 2500rpm and the only real difference i would think is that your parts would last longer.
yes, you can rev it as much as you want, as it's not too bad for the car but you might need to replace a few things a little more often (speaking from no knowledge whatsoever:P yet)

Thread hijacking
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Thread Hijacking)
Jump to: navigation, search
Thread hijacking is the act of taking a forum discussion thread off topic by discussing a subject entirely unrelated to the subject at hand.

While this can be an intentional act of trolling, it is often accidental - caused by other participants in the discussion responding to a throwaway remark, taking the thread off at a tangent to the original subject matter. The results, whilst often humourous, often extract a feeling of resentment from the author of the post.

Many people find that they are scolded on a list or newsgroup for thread hijacking despite the fact that they changed the subject line, which would seem to them to create a new thread. Most news and mail readers use other headers such as References: to track and build the thread of messages by message ID, and changing the subject line does not change the actual threading. Therefore, one should always compose a new (and therefore reference-free) message when changing topics. Alternatively one can start a new thread for the new topic and link to the previous thread.

Here is the new thread..

it's going good, and I've found a few that are perfect:

all at a very reasonable price too. i just have to hope they will still be around until my car sells.
I'm putting it up on carsales as soon as my exams finish (21/6) and when it's sold I can start inspecting a few and hopefully finding one. (as for names, I think I'll name my dub-to-be either Arthur or Charlie:P)

What the boys are getting at is 5000 revs in FIRST gear, especially in someone elses car?

I think Chris has more room to make comment when he actually gets his license and has some "onroad" experience. Respect for another persons car when given the opportunity to drive it is another thing. Anyone who doesnt have a license and doesnt really know how to drive and change gears all that well can drive "offroad" in a paddock or whatever.

Not challenging...

Hey all,

I'm from Barossa Valley, SA for those of you who don't know. I have a '69 kombi with a 1600 SP. She's in the workshop over the weekend getting a couple CV joints replaced, a tie rod end and a ball joint replaced as well. I would put up a pic but they're all old ones!

Good luck with the search Wild1. You could always try eBay for kombis? That's where I found my baby!

Cheers,

Hey Marty,

There are quite a few Veedubbers around in Melbourne. I thought the exact same thing as you when I first jumped on AVD, but now i know i was mistaken hehe

Theres OvalTofu, Empi, Pretty_Blue_Bug, Helbus, blutopless2, + many more who i'm probably forgetting... If you check out General Chit Chat theres a thread going at the moment where we're organising a trip to see Cars at the Dromana Drive In. You're welcome to come along and meet everyone if ya want, even if you don't have your new bus yet :)

I'm still fairly new to the scene as far as getting out on cruises and stuff goes, but from what i've seen of everybody so far, they are a pack of VW nutbags... so we'll all fit in just fine!!! :D :P :D :P :D :P

Anywho, Keep fighting mate, u will get that kombi. Got great tastes. Its hard to get out of the addiction once u get hooked, i had a teacher at school that sold his kombi, 5 yrs later, he is starting to get temptations to go back in that direction.
