Horizontal Speedos

Hey guys,

This isnt concerning VW's but out of curiosity i was wondering what cars had those speedos where the needle was like verticall and slid to the right when accelerating?

Thanx

1978 Ford LTD have them.

It was like a bar that travelled across a strip as the cars speed increased.

It was kinda cool, but if you stopped quick or accelerated fast the speedo lagged behind a couple of seconds.

Some had like a needle, but with some, the coloured plastic piece just seemed to go from left to right...
continuously....

where did this coloured bit come from?

it never ran out.... even at 100 mph....

was this the ultimate in speedos...???

My 1969 datsun supersix has a red line that just keeps going to the right (solid). Works by simpy rotating a cylinder. not quite the same... but similar :)
