not always. i payed $500 for mine and have spent around 2k in 12 months (about $1600 to get upto roadworthy, then the rest just in servicing) so i recon that's pretty cheap

I have just looked at what you were after, assumption "t3" wagon meaning t3 not type 3. I was pretty sure type 3 wagons are called type 3's not type T3 wagons My bad, so iguess you cant have my spare T3.. :alien

It's not if you call the your 'T3's T25's. For some reason Australians call them that...and rugby 'football' etc etc

I believe T25 refers to air cooled kombi's, 80'-83' ( the square shape) and T3 used for the watercooled kombi's to ~91.
I know T3 is a factory designation, but no idea if T25 is?

I think we all agree that a T3 is a T3 in Aus & a type 3 is a notchback. Have we got it sorted, i had the same conversation with a bloke on ebay the other day. As for the T25 i believe Andy had it correct partially it all depends on what part of the world you come from. Cheers

Hahaha, so if a type 3 is a notch, what is a fast back or a wagon???
Oh this is such fun!
:thumb

Oh, I love your title also, just wish for two and I'll have the other one.
Would a synchro not make propulsion and steering on the same wheels?? :starhit:

I'm pretty sure we've had this discussion before.. lol.. and i think i started it..

Type 3 is a Type 3 (Notchback, Fastback, Sqaureback) T3 is the later model van. Simple!

Now if only people would stick to this.. it would avoid so much confusion!

Yes a type 3 is a notch according to the mob on carsales.net, i disagree but thought i would throw it in as for my syncro if we both wish hard enough it may happen either that or brain will implode. I love this game can we all play??

I gotta laugh at this, its good, yes the steering and propulsion on the same. If u could see the grin.:P:P

a "t3" or type 3 should be a notch square or fastback, a t25 should be the brick van, a t4 is the 411 or 412 range of vwcars from the 70's and the euro van is the front engined van produced after the brick van, the T5 is the newest vans produced.
the other thing we could do is actually say t3 van, or type 3 wagon, or t4 van, i'm sure we allknow wot i mean, dont we????

NNNNNOOOOOOoooooo!!!!! man. This has been delt with before, search the net, there's heaps out there (one I found in coupla seconds of searching):
http://www.vwbusstop.demon.nl/vwnamepage/index.html
Type 1, 2, 3, 4 vere model designations from VW
T1, 2, 3, 4 etc are model variations (eg for a type 2 VW)
type 1 and T1 are DEFINITELY not interchangeable.

A valid VW model designation for a '68-'79 "kombi" would be a type 2, T2, a "kombi splitty" is a type 2, T1

Damm that first link was helpful. So a t3 is a Kombi and a type 3 is a Fastback variant is that a bit like a bitsa dog?:jesus, i knew i was up to speed. Foud out wjay parts are worth for a synchro and i am unsure if i still wish for a "bill". But you know i will still have one when i win.

Hahaha, and unregistered car in the driveway is very cheap to run and maintain :)

Nah, name is just the model descriptions VW decided on using. The "type" number was carried through to many prototype cars the factory made, and was even used during WW2 for things like the develeopment of the kubel/commander/swim wagon etc.

Check it out one day, there were plenty of VW factory concoctions made for development.

As for the Synchro, VW prototyped a T2 (bay window) kombi with 4WD before they did a deal StyerPuch to make the synchro. They also made synchro golfs in the 80's that were very purposeful cars.

You been past my place lately??? Who you been talking to?? Man i think i may have to hide them.
Scored a single window cargo "Type 2" and well it needs work plenty of chassis rust but what the hey it's just steel and i can weld, the rest of the body has already seen a rebuild so i am unsure if i should take all the paint off? This way make for an expensive project and would become more long term. Any thoughts??

:duh But what sort of Type 2? T1, T2, T3, T4, T5? :P
I don't need to go past any VeeDubbers house, they are a disease and seem to congregate around your house..... (hey a line of VW's in the back yard means less mowing!)

Panel vans are fairly rare as far as T1, T2 and T3 numbers are concerned, so are worth saving. Only they are not as sort after as double and single cab utes from what I have seen.
Chassis rust is a real bummer as there's a lot of work to fix it. Getting a donor for rusted bits is a good idea, but still a lot of work to replace chassis bits on a kombi as it's intergral with the floor & sils.

As for taking paint off, depends in it's condition. You need to remove enough to be sure there's no rust lurking under panels, VW's on the whole rust from the inside out (no paint underneath the panels from the factory). For the rest of it, opinions differ. I would say if the paint is sound and not flaking leave it, just give it a sand back and paint over.
If you go back to bare metal you need an etching primer and then run the risk it will not stick as good as the original paint.
Just my opinion though.

Sad to say it, but unless you have a lot of spare time and can get materials very cheap it is always cheaper to find something with less rust than rebuilding something with a lot of rust.
On the plus side though, as with my "type 2, T2, Deluxe Microbus" (what a mouth full) you will have something you cherish and can stand back and say I did that!!

OK Ok so i stressed a,little too much not nearly as much chassis rust as first thought. Going to swap my wrecker T3 85 mod cl for two aircoolers 1 74 camper not running but with all included and a 71 cargo van at rebuild stage(someone else has taken it apart and now well its' a bit like a big jigsaw) I know where there are 2 T3 vanagon single cabs, Keeping it a secret until i can buy them both.
