My engine is overflowing????? SUMP FULL OF FUEL
Went out to get in my 76 kombi today and there is a pile of oil under the engine. On further inspection it is overflowing out the filler neck onto the
ground????
What is it????? My engine oil level was normal. What can it be?????

oil will kick back out of the easiest place if there is too much case pressure.
There is always some case pressure - but will increase if the motor is worn or if there is no relief the natural amout will blow oil out.
Check the breather on top of the case isnt blocked

Does the 76 Kombi have the engine breather like a beetle?
they have a pipe that goes downwards for any excess oil blown up to the breather
to drip under the engine....
If the breather is blocked.... with engine going....
The engine will pump oil out anyway it can....
out of the crankcase.....
dipstick or crankshaft pulley usually...
Smell the oil to make sure there isn't any petrol in it....

Ok, i drained the sump and got about 7 litres out of it!!! It was very thin and smelt like petrol.
What does this mean?? How does all this fuel get into the engine?

If the needle & seat in Your carburetor/s are worn.
they allow too much fuel into the carby bowl.
ie.. the Needle & Seat don't cut off the fuel....
so it overflows into the inlet manifold and down into Your engine.....
flows thru any open inlet valves past the piston rings and into the sump...
Lucky You checked the oil or saw the leak...
as Your engine wouldn't have lasted long......
Does Your engine have a mechanical fuel pump??
as on a beetle engine it can leak into the engine...
usually the cause in a beetle...
You need to replace the needle and seat in Your Carburetors....

I had this problem once when I was camping in the middle of nowhere with my buggy.
Woke up in the morning with fuel dripping out of the rocker covers. I was about an hours drive away from town, with no-one around and very few tools.
So What I did was drain the sump down to the normal level. (I found out that a spark plug tool fits the sump plug perfectly!) I then drove it slowly
into town, preying it didn't blow, changed the oil at the servo and drove home phew!

if you park on a relativly steep angle with the bum down it can fill the sump by draining out of the fuel bowl breathers but if it was flat or nose
down the needle and seats are u/s
Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.
