kombi mileage
what kind of milage are people getting fomr 1800-2000 kombis?
The person who just bought mine reckons it used 16l/100km on his way home. I've never calculated it but it seeems a bit off.
Also claims it was missfiring popping at 100kms/hr or high revs. What could be the cause of this (other than the dodgy valve)

I have a non working fuel guage put in 15L for every 100km I drive.
Saying that, I did run out of petrol just this weekend.
I believe my carbys are way off, as the chokes don't work and on a cold morning (5C-10C) I can start and drive it with any spluttering.
I know the jets on my have been stuffed around with as the previous owner told me he had drilled them out to his .

hmmmm...bodgy coil? (the misfiring)... or maybe a fuel blockage of some description... or zorst leak?... dizzy not quite right?... carbs out of synch
or badly tuned?
just throwin round buzzwords that may or my not be correct LOL
oh..one thing ive noticed... my bus runs like shit with the aircleaner off.... coughs and splutters and backfires like there is no tomorrow! :duh....
dunno why...but put the cleaner back on and it runs sweet again!

I'm probably as good as yard stick as any for Kombi fuel consumption. The twin cab covers about 100kms a day on average, through both city traffic
and long freeway runs. I'm usually able to avoid peak hour traffic, so the start stop routine is mostly traffic lights, not bumper to bumper. I drive
to keep up with the traffic, so the twin cab gets a good workout each day. Highway speeds average 110kmh.
10-12 litres per 100 kms for my 2 litre, twin standard Solex, hydraulic lifter with a mild performance cam and extractor and custom muffler setup. The
heavier consumption is usually as a result of extended highway runs. I would love a five speed box one day.

Thats the one. Evil bastard thing, never had anywhere near as much trouble with any car like that one. It went from Wollongong to Canberra without
falling to pieces which is pretty amazing. The guy who bought it has no idea about anything volkswagen, he had no tools on board... was pretty luckiy.
I was scared to drive it to the corner shop.

We took our bus touring a couple of years ago and did 2990km country driving and used 301 litres of petrol. Pretty bloody close to 10l per 100km. That
was with 2litre gearbox.

My 2L twin carbed 77 microbus, with everything in mickey mouse condition, is getting 14.92 L/per 100 or 19 mpg around Sydneys stop go traffic.
Haven't kept track on a long trip yet.
Keeping the carbs syncronised and in good tune helps. Over 12 months of fiddling with the carbs my fuel consumption has gone from 16.38 L per 100 to
14.92 L per 100. And expecting better out of the next tank after more adjustments.

Well... yeah but... it was just a totally evil car man. Even the engine I didnt build, I only installed it, could only make it to Gosfordish or
wherever the hell it was.
Well, other than swapping the clutch and flywheel using nothing but a hammer and chisel, I did nothing to it you helped!
