IRS is suppose to knock out alot of camber, then y are my tyres...
On the rear wheels of my 69, the tread wear is un-even. on each tyre, the outter most tread has still got plenty, on the inner most position, its
thinner.
Its IRS. Hmm, being of that wear, if the IRS still does have a little bit of camber in it, would that mean the car musta been lowered?

Camber can be set on IRS rears. Just because you have some negative camber, it does not necessarily mean it's been lowered.

It shouldn't. Apart form the additional weight of the gear box, which will tend to lower it a bit more.

Manufacturing tolerance and wear of the torsion bars' outer rubber bushes can allow the car's tyres to wear unevenly. Replace bushes; regular tyre
rotation helps. So does a proper wheel alignment - toe-out will attack tyres' inner edges more than camber will

Will have to. The front end has a bit of toe out, from waht the eye can see. And gotta adjust teh torsion bar suspension later anyways, so i could
replace the brushes then :P

Positive camber at 72 MPH isn't a good thing....
My Sons Baja wears the inner rear tyres out long before the outer edge...
with IRS rear end....
Non IRS.. ie Swing axles actually move from one degree to another as they go over bumps etc....
so they can wear that way too....
and the early Beetles that haven't been lowered can go from Negative to positive camber etc
back & forth over bumps....
I've seen some great photos of Beetles in early car rallies at speed....
cross ply tyres etc....
Positive Camber at 72 MPH isn't a good thing...
Its a wonder they didn't all roll over.....
well some of them did.....
I rolled a 1962 Beetle about 1969.....
coming off the Hexham bridge and turned left....
tipped on its roof....
Got some helpers to push it back up the right way....
started it up and away I went.....
No Seat Belts then either.....

Yeah, Positive camber is a scare. Jeff Hibbard says the same thing in his book. How did u deal without seatbelts? few bruises?

Incorrect toew will cause worse tyre wear problems. Replace the bushes, set the height you want and then get the car professionally aligned,
preferably by someone with a bit of experience. Aligning it with soggy bushes is a waste of time.

I forgot about that....
after renewing the bushes I suppose the rear end will need a rear wheel alignment...
although it would have been correct when the car was made....
and the bushes wore out.... and You replace them....
this is IRS I'm looking at.....
but all VW rear ends are adjustable.....
plus You don't know if its been moved... adjusted.... etc
so, a rear wheel alignment is best....
but finding someone these days, who has actually done one before..!!!
Now that would be hard....

IRS naturally have a few degrees -ve camber so they will always wear the inside tread more than the outside ive had 3 irs bugs and one swinger and
they're all like it tho irs sit slightly positive when jacked up in the air for some reason
