Subi 2.5 oil starving?

Got a mate with a Subi 2.5 hooked up to a Renault gearbox in his Type 3 kombi. Engine has been going great since installation with plenty of torque. What he has found however is that when pulling up hills, it appears the motor starves for oil....well the oil light comes on. He has no leaks and the oil levels are ok. His theory is that because the engine is now facing a different direction to when it was installed in a Subi, that the oil sender is now thinking that it has low oil due to gravity / centrifugal forces etc etc.

Is this theory correct, and if so, how does he fix it??

Baffle the sump? Or relocate the sender sensor unit to the rear of the car (front of the sump).
